    This.

Anyone remember when everyone thought Stephen Jackson was garbage, then he signed with the Spurs and actually looked like a serviceable player and then he left the Spurs and promptly turned back into garbage again?

    Except that never happened.

He was pretty damn good on the Pacers. He was good on the Spurs. He was great on the Warriors.

What a difference a developed 3 point shot makes. Carroll only had his defense and intangibles when he was with the Rockets, and that made him a non-NBA player for the most part.

You put a 3 point shot on a player like that and suddenly he's worth 50 mil to the right team.

Good for Carroll. He worked his butt off to earn a spot in the NBA, and to start on a good team. One of the hardest things to predict as a GM is whether or not a guy will develop a 3 point shot. That a huge difference maker in their viability.

"The team that [waives DeMarre Carrol], not the ones that give him a [$50M contract] are the ones that are succeed long term"

Isn't this a poor man's version of the Kawhi Leonard/Draymond Green story?

Undersized tweeter college PF with good Atheleticism and motor, NBA teams not sure whether they have a position in the pros so they did not get drafted high. Become good at shooting 3s and prove that they can play defense against a couple of positions and suddenly the guys are useful and making good money.

Looks like these earlier reports underestimated his salary by $10M.

That 2010-11 Rockets team with Lowry, Dragic, Patterson and DeMarre was loaded with future stars.

Morey once said he envy the Astros because they have a farm system and can keep more than 3 extra roster spots for minor leaguers. The truth is that the lack of roster spots make it impossible for teams to hang on to and develop guys for the most part.

In the end, role players are role players. Morey go the stars, so I can't complain.

This is what makes Morey so good.

He realizes that once you start paying role players like stars, your basketball success goes out the window.

Now don't get me wrong, Carroll had a good year, but $15 million per year? That's delusional...

The beauty of Morey is that he will continue to do this and keep rotating players who are undervalued to go along with the stars that actually make the difference between contenting and just being a good playoff team.

Future stars? Lowry is a star but other than that, Dragic is a good PG but not a star, Patterson was the backup PF to Amir Johnson and DeMarre is far from being a star and he's already 28 turning 29 years old.
