So, paying to go to the beach...while you're in Galveston?

The beach thing is cool. There's a wave pool. But its pretty crowded. I think if you pay for that, maybe you can do their zip line course too? Not sure.

Might be worth it, if you're getting an all inclusive ticket, and make an entire day there (do all the pyramids, plus the beach. We did that a year or two ago.

We did it last month. Paid $69 or something to do the aquarium and the pyramids. Didn't have time to go to the beach....

Only worth it if you make a full day out of it. Aquarium, rainforest, IMAX, man made beach, etc.

I personally like it over the beach. Pretty decent small Waterpark. Better suited for smaller kids.

Have you been to the beach in Galveston? I'd pay not to go there.

Plenty. We go often. It's not the Caribbean but we almost always enjoy ourselves. If not there, then Surfside Beach.

Any of the pocket parks going south when you hit the seawall off of 61st. We also like to go to the State Park because it's usually not very busy. Otherwise, we go to Surfside.

Yep, take 61st and then turn RIGHT at Seawall not left. That's the key.

Sister has a place on Pirate's Beach, so we go 2 or 3 times a year. Going to be there in a couple of weeks.

Er, uh....what I meant to say was that the entire island is a dump. Everyone, please go somewhere else.

I'd say it's worth it only if you have young kids (under 7). We had a family year membership for Moody gardens last year and looked forward to going to it in the summer as part of our package. We barely did anything and left. The one water slide is really small and the wave pool was meh. But our kids were all pre-teens when we went so it didn't appeal to anyone especially once we've been to Schlitterbahn.

Also, if you want to go to the beach, go to Surfside. At least from Sugar Land it takes about the same amount of time to drive to either and we like Surfside SO MUCH better. It's more of a beach with actual sand, etc. There's nothing to do out there other than the beach but if that's what you're looking for then it's good.

I don't think I've been to Galveston in over 20 years, my dad has rented a house in the Pointe West area for me and my brother and our families this August, so I've been following this thread.

Are there any family-friendly activities on this region of the island or is it just a residential beach area, for anyone that might be familiar? Is it close to the popular seawall area and pleasure pier? We want to lounge out by day and explore the restaurants and entertainment by night. Mini golf, stuff for toddlers, etc.

We're probably looking to go to Moody Gardens on the day we check out of our place and then spend the afternoon there.

It's mostly just residential on the west end, but of course there's lots of beaches that are much quieter than the ones along the seawall.

    For kids, you can:

    - ride the ferry, feed the seagulls and see some dolphins. It's free.
    - take them to the Strand, especially LA Kings Confectionery which is an old time soda shop where you can get TONS of candy and watch them make saltwater taffy.
    - take them fishing on any of the fishing piers. Our favorite is the one near 89th street. There's a pretty good restaurant on top you can eat at, then go downstairs for fishing and ice cream.
    - there's a putt putt golf place and a batting cage right across the street from the pier I mention above
    - you can go to the Lone Star Flight Museum if they like planes. What kid doesn't like planes?
    - be sure to go to Murdochs on the seawall which is a massive souvenir shop

My boys are almost 6 and LOVE everything mentioned above (except the batting cage...)
