Like the title says, are there any similar restaurants in Houston like Pappadeaux, but cheaper?

I like this version of semi-cajun food, but I don't want to go to some of these places you see around town that don't look very umm...clean. Any suggestions?

The Pappas on SW Freeway in Sharpstown has specials quite often that other locations do not. One recent deal (all locations in town had) was 25 shrimp for $12.95. They were legitimate-sized shrimp, not the popcorn garbage.

I think Willie-G's, Boudreaux's are trash and Red Lobster is a rip-off. This will sound contradictory, but I go to Cap'n Benny's when Pappas/Pappadeaux is too expensive.

Just order 1 thing from papados for two people and they will do a "split plate" which essentially gives you more food for free on separate plates! WIn!

it depends, which particular food do you usually eat in their menu? the fried seafood platters, grilled fish, or the cajun specialties like gumbo or etouffee?

There's one at Greenspoint, same shopping strip as Fuddrucker's.

Boudreaux's and Rajin Cajun are your answers, but I love the hole in the joints as well.

I'm not sure Rajin Cajun is actually cheaper. We eat there quite a bit, and it ain't cheap.

Holy crap. I just checked their menu. When did Ragin Cajun do that to their prices?!?

That place used to be reasonable.

I know, right? It used to be the cheap..counter service alternative for cajun food. It's still counter service, but their prices are every bit as high as anywhere else that serves cajun food.

I remember eating a Pappadeaux's on a trip to Houston but I don't remember it being extremely expensive. Maybe it has changed. Has it always been that way?
