In my conversations and reading over the last several months it's become obvious to me that many of the issues we deal with get cast as us vs the Europeans. I'm curious what the source of this anti-European sentiment is?

I had a long conversation today with someone about NATO and he fully supports Trump, even going so far as to pull out of NATO saying "Screw the Europeans."

On Climate Change? Same thing. Screw the Europeans.

There's this general belief among this type of conservative that we "give our money away" and pay the world's bills and pay for their security and that the biggest offender is somehow the Europeans.

What do you think about this?

But we can still be friends with Soviet Russia and Saudi Arabia right?

They think Europe is a socialist society and the US is protecting the Europe at our expense, never mind the US would not reduce its defense budget even if the Europeans double their defense budget.

It hasn't been the last several months. It has been for years.

You have those who look at Europe and complain and ask why we can't have their best attributes. Often these individual are portraying an attitude that the US is falling further and further behind from 1st world nations. I dont mind marveling at another country or continents achievements, but dont forget our strengths. The reality is the US and Europe are two very different animals. What works there may not necessarily work here. And one shouldn't cherry pick a European country and whitewash the whole continent. There are some very nice countries in Europe and there are some shitholes. The same applies to the US.

I think the people who ascribe to that line of thinking are deplorable.

First, let's ask how many of the Europe haters have actually been to Europe.
Second, let's ask how many European countries they can name on a map.
Third, let's ask them what is the origin of the English language. (Hint: not invented by Jesus.)
Fourth, let's ask them where white people came from.
Fifth, let's ask them where the foundation of our political science came from.

Europe haters think Europeans are gay and thin and Americans are beefy like American Sniper. I think that sums it up.

Remember Freedom Fries from back when Western Europe wouldn't follow us down the path to folly and destruction?

OP, not to be repetitive but I don't think it's complicated. Liberals like Europe; liberal elites vacation there and learn those snooty languages. Europe even liked Obama.

Since all things remotely liberal are bad, then Europe looks bad.

Or maybe it's just that Chick pamphlet on the "EU AntiChrist"! :)
