From 0.9 APG for his career, to 4.0 APG this year.
His FT% is .396 for his career, up to .648 this year.

No telling If this holds up, but two of the very weakest elements of his game are improving, and his defense has been better too. The Pistons are 14-8, and he is averaging 14 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.3 blocks. It's really nice to see a young big man improve, especially after last year when many people, myself included, thought he was basically done.

If only Stanley Johnson would magically improve now... ;)

S/O Andre Drummond for dispelling the notion that some big men will simply never be able to shoot free throws. Get in the gym big fellas

Meanwhile Dwight Howard is still shooting under .50% and this is his 13th year

I wonder what Drummond’s numbers would be if he were playing in Capela’s place this season.

I really don't think it is a coincidence that Dwight had his best years under SVG.

Lol, even his FT% was better under the man.

SVG may just be the center whisperer, same as MDA is for guards. He has Drummond caring and motivated, if you recall that OKC game, he sucked for a half, got some motivation apparently, and dominated the paint afterwards.

took a while for Drummond to buy in though. said in the Capela thread I'd take Capela over him but motivated Drummond > Capela. Drummond's always been super lazy and uninspiring until this year it seems like so far.

Sounds like a certain center, doesn't he?

They are a lot alike. Both can't score outside of like 3 feet. Both, when good, can play good defense and dominate the glass. Both are basically not very skilled bigs but dominate physically...and both have problems with motivation.

It's not surprising SVG eventually saw progress, the good thing for them he's only 24.

For me this is definitely the most surprising development of the season. Even more so than Oladipo.
With the immaturity, mindset, laziness and weak work ethic Drummond had shown over his whole carreer this new improvement has come out of the blue.
IF this keeps up- which I'm not convinced at all yet- then he deserves congratulations for turning his whole carreer around.
Maybe SVG involving him in trade talks was a wake up call, or maybe he grew up. But it's extremely rare to see that happen, especially for someone who has already cashed in.

The skill and athleticism has always been there for Drummond. Big-men just always seem like complete wild-cards personality/work ethic wise - virtually all guards have worked and risen to their heights because of an undying love for basketball. Big men aren't given much of a choice - "what else are you gonna do with that 6'10+ height." - so the actual enjoyment of the game isn't always there. I think thats why we see so many burnouts from the Center position (Larry Sanders, Andrew Bynum*) and those that don't reach their full potential (Dwight Howard).

Glad Drummond's figured things out, and made a concerted effort to improve his game and give it his all this season. From watching his passing actually looks really good out of the post, and gotta give props to a guy who has nearly doubled his free-throw percentage. Will be rooting for Detroit to make the playoffs
