This is what I expect from a Rockets leader. This is the reaction from teammates and coaches that I expect from a Rockets leader. I'm sorry if this offends a certain group of people here. "The statistics since my rookie year have been consistent. This year, it's my teammates who deserve a lot of credit. We have character and we have team chemistry. MVP, AGAIN/Olajuwon shifted into another gear for playoff joy ride JONATHAN FEIGEN Staff FRI 06/16/1995 HOUSTON CHRONICLE, Section Special, Page 1, 2 STAR Edition "He is the best player in the world, and there is no word that can describe him," teammate Robert Horry said. "He is just unbelievable." "I don't know if any player has played as great as Hakeem Olajuwon did all through the playoffs," Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich said. "It is just one accomplishment after another." He is a gentleman of extraordinary grace and extreme talent who has marched through an NBA career that can only be called extraordinary," NBA commissioner David Stern said in presenting Olajuwon the award. "I'm not allowed to root, but I've become an Hakeem Olajuwon fan. "Because of his grace and the seeming ease with which he does it, because of his extraordinary calm under fire and his all-around class and grace, it sometimes masks the determination, the grit, the resolve that allows great athletes to carry their team and to make the players around them both better and in their own way great, and literally carry their club to a championship by virtue of their own will. "That is Hakeem Olajuwon."
No, he offered the perspective of an Olajuwon era Rockets fan, similar to the other guy offering the perspective of a TMac fan. Whats good for the goose is good for the gander.
I don't care if this is more tinman schtick. I'll take any opportunity to shout Dream's praises to the cosmos. The man was a god. Plain and simple. A GOD. We were all LUCKY to have had him for as long as we did.
I what the Clutchfans reaction to Dream if it existed during the Charlie Thomas years. "Dream 4 budding star Ronny Seikaly and a first round pick"
Too bad we can't have an amazing statue like Chi does of Jordan. He was and still is our Jordan. I actually bought his Payless Olajuwon shoes over the Js just cause he was my favorite player.... Then turned around and got the Jordans.
This is what a Rockets Leader when he won the NBA Most Valuable Player Award. He gave credit to his teammates for their character and chemistry.
This illustrates the difference in what some of us here expect in our superstars. Dream set the bar high so it's difficult for us more mature fans to let the bar be moved so low for some of our current players.
A leader can make mistakes and face adversity, how he endures through tough times helps him in his journey..(and a new contract helps too)
Tinman, I never realized you were an Olajuwon-era Rockets fan. Why don't you ever mention that?
Remember in Star Wars when Hans Solo decided leave Luke and the Rebels only to come back in the Millennium Falcon and shoot Vader off Luke's tail? that's what happened.
