Paul will get four or five-year deal with Rockets

Chris Paul will be an unrestricted free agent this summer and is expected to re-sign with the Houston Rockets.

For how many years has yet to be determined.

According to ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski, it’s unknown if Paul will get a four or five-year deal to stay in Houston.

The Rockets are slated to have $85.1 million on the books for next season, with the NBA salary cap projected to be around $101 million for the 2018-19 season.

In his first year with the Rockets, Paul averaged 18.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 7.9 assists while shooting 46.0 percent from the field and 38.0 percent from three. He finally advanced to the Conference Finals for the first time in his career, but it was cut short, as the All-Star suffered a hamstring injury in Game 5 and was forced to miss Game 6 and 7.

The injury proved to be costly, as Houston lost to the Golden State Warriors in seven games.

Paul is reportedly looking for a max contract from the Rockets, who are basically out of the LeBron James sweepstakes now that James has opted out of his contract.

Dude don't post Amico trash. His source is Adrian Woj for goodness sakes, which at least he gives him credit. Anyways, this is old news.

Basically have to sign him and hope next offseason we can add another player. At that point Ryan will only be on a 1 year deal and will be a much easier trade at a 21m expiring.

As for the people talking about 4-5, he’s gonna be better then anyone else we have seen play into their late 30s. His intelligence and leadership only get better, he’s a great scorer who uses his moves not his athleticism. He has never been an elite athletic player, he will be fine.

Injury is a concern NOW, so why are we acting like on his 5th year it will be any different. You gota hope and pray it doesn’t happen, but if it does oh well.

This, CP3s game will age as well as Stockton's did, and just look at what he at 33 and beyond.

I expect CP3 to put up superior numbers than Stockton, but on lesser games of course.

Hey man. That's my post. I've done that like 4 times after the past few years.

Giving him a 5 year max deal is a huge mistake for someone at his age with injury history.

3 years at maybe 20 per is what he’s worth.

Any more than 4 years is a mistake given his history of injuries. Personally I’d hope to give him Amman for 3 years or less at 4.

CP wants 5 obviously, rockets want 4 obviously. i assume they meet in the middle with a partially guaranteed 5th year. since we wont land lebron its also possible to front load the contract so it declines every year.

I do not prefer to sign CP3 to a 5-year deal, that's just my opinion

I would prefer 4 years, but if the Rockets and he agree to a 5 year deal, I will be okay with it.

Thats actually worse than a straight up 4 year deal for CP3...

4 + team option, he's basically getting the 4 year contract - when he wants 5 years (guaranteed) + gives away control for year 5 without any guaranteed value - could be declined or could be tied up if its in the teams best interest...

My hope is that CP3 is willing to take less than the max on a 5 year deal. I’m fine investing in him until retirement age but not at 40 mil per when he’s 37.

Make the 5th year a team option.
