Seems like it's being brushed off as expected, but was it really?

I fully expect him to opt out for long term security if he finishes the season healthy. No surprise for me.

I suppose how much he asks for will depend on said health and desire for a championship. Contenders won't be able to offer as much as teams just looking to sell some tickets and be competitive in the short term. Which ever teams those are.

Opting out is a no-brainer. Everyone opts out to get a better and/or longer deal.

Yes very expected. Makes no sense at all for Howard to opt in financially.

Whether the Rockets attempt to keep him is another matter. That is a huge unknown and depends on how the rest of the season goes, if we want to completely rebuild, etc

So, will Moray trade him before the Feb. 18 deadline?

Ppl will make this news but everyone expected him to opt out anyway for a longer contract (especially with prior injuries, cash in now)

No team will give up much because he's gonna opt out no matter where he is

What GM would pay $31.5 million per year for Dwight Howard? He's clearly declining and doesn't appear to be worth half that.

I doubt anyone will. Prob more than $15 mil tho because the cap is going up so much.

Also depends on how he looks the rest of the year

Whether he opts in or out will probably depend on his health this season. If he misses a lot of games, will teams be lining up to give him a big long term contract? If he falls apart during this season then I would expect him to opt in. If he's relatively healthy then he opts out.

Goodbye Dwert. Hopefully you go get yourself a championship elsewhere, with better teammates.

Carried Orlando for years only to break down in the end.
Then stuck with Kobe Bryant & James Haren.

I'm sorry it didn't work out here. Best of luck wherever you end up!

I hope so. I don't think he's worth what some desperate team is going to offer him. Better to get something now than nothing later.

    Depends on the team.

If it is a team like OKC, Miami or Indiana that thinks they can compete for a title WITH Howard, you may get a solid return.

The question is do the Rockets want to resign him? The cap is going up and they are unlikely to sign anyone better on the open market. Also the clock is ticking until Harden is a free agent or demands a trade. I don't see Harden staying long term.

The Rockets would regret paying him that, Which is why I think they are trading him now.

Some bottom dweller team whose GM needs to make a splash and put butts in the seats will do it - just on Dwights name alone...
