that was just exploitative torture p*rn Negan is a stupid cartoon villain. People like him may exist, but they certainly wouldn't have a following.
Just youtubed the scene, they pushed that way too much into the torture p*rn category. If that's what you're relying on to keep your viewers it says a lot. This is exactly what I mean when I say this show is frustrating (thank god I didn't watch the episode), they stop last season only to have this done at this point?
Shame Rick didn't follow through on the ax. That was the only thing I wanted to have happen in the whole entire episode.
I just watched, Negan gets a bad rap but he looks like a fun loving type, always laughing and smiling, and he's fairly honest. Sounds like just the kind of person to become a powerful warlord when the world descends into chaos due to the zombie apocalypse.
Man that was torture! Had me pissed the whole episode. The scene at the dinner table with Glen and Maggie's baby was just sad
I agree. If they were going to kill Glenn, they should have done that build up first instead of teasing it with that stupid dumpster dive scene. It felt anitclimatic and very cartonnish with his eyes hanging out and Steven's over acting. Maggie's reaction was kinda weak imo.
I thought it was alright but, like some mentioned above, the cliffhanger sucked all the energy out of the scene. The scene itself was just over the top with the gore but it didn't help since it all felt anti climatic. I thought the show runners were going to go for it and off Daryl but they did exactly what everybody expected. It didn't really surprise me at all, thank god for Jeffery Dean Morgan. He's got real talent and can pull off the character.
If you guys really want an impactful death by a baseball bat scene, GO watch Casino!!! Now that will leave a lasting impression on you.
If you can get a reasonable price for it, go for it. Otherwise I'd try a flea market or a second hand shop.
I thought it was a really good episode. I do agree with others that someone should have died in the season finale last season. I think if they had Abrahams death on the season finale it would have hurt a lot more. I think Abrahams character grew on a lot of people last season and having him die then I would have felt sick. Waiting all summer, I really forgot why I started to like Abraham. It also would have thrown all those people who were adamant that Glenn was the one that would die for a loop. That dream sequence at the end really pulled at my strings... Yeah it was a tough watch but you are watching a graphic novel about the zombie apocalypse play out on TV. I think they really did that scene justice from what you see in the comic.
I thought it was amazing. I was pissed off, and I hate Negan about as much as I've ever hated a fictional character. I'd say that means they did their job pretty well. Difficult to watch.
Did the comic put Glenn's death on Daryl like that? I didn't care for that. I honestly thought that once Big Red was done in...I wasn't expecting another death based on what he had said about only one would die. I guess I should have figured it would have been worse. Then, Daryl did a bonehead move. But, as a viewer, I felt completely subdued by Negan. I can't say enough good things about that actor's performance. It was awesome, terrifying, thrilling...all that. I've never felt like that watching such an intense scene. It was very satisfying. The only thing I can slightly compare it to is the feeling I got watching the bad guy in "No Country for Old Men". I would have thought going in that Big Red was more an asset to Negan than one to be offed. His obvious defiance and not cowering down. Plus, he's this huge dude that can outmuscle most anyone there. I wonder if Negan chose Big Red because he saw him as the biggest threat to him in the group? Seems unlikely. No one can accuse Negan of having a heart and going with the obvious choice of the volunteer because that is essentially what Big Red was doing when compared to the cowering others. He was stepping up for the group to be the one. I didn't care for the Glenn pounding as almost an afterthought due to Daryl punching Negan. Just curious if that is how the comic portrayed it? The Glenn bulging eye was almost comical for a bit there. Honestly, when Rick was on top of the camper and he was flashing to everyone else being butchered, I thought Negan had killed them all and he was reliving it. In that moment...I thought Rick was the only one left. But, it was Rick projecting in his mind what would happen if he didn't accept Negan and his situation. I did feel that Rick not chopping off Carl's hand was a total copout and diluted Negan's effect and ruthlessness imo. It should have happened because I don't feel Rick was completely subdued the same way as if he had to go through with it. It's almost like it gave Rick a little hope or something. The whole thing was a hard pill to swallow. Negan is such a monster but he has his rules and way of doing things to keep his people in line. But, it's even harder to believe that a person like that would survive for very long. He must have a bunch of Trump supporters backing him.
I thought it was the best episode of the series. tense, dramatic, well acted, hard to watch and with plenty of zombie killing to boot. I fully expect Maggie to go hard at Negan at some point.
