I'm posting this here rather than starting a new thread. I've finally been challenged to do the Ice Bucket challenge. As I stated earlier in the thread while ALS is a worthy cause the amount of money raised relative to how many people are stricken with ALS pales when looking at many other diseases and issues out there. Do y'all think it would be cool if I did the challenge but instead donated money to another cause?
if you want to donate to some cause then donate. What does dumping water on your head have to do with it?
Nobody actually donates anyhow. There's no wrong way to give to charity, it's certainly better than this dumb trend which is the equivalent to planking for attention. It has ultimately been a good thing, but I'm ready for it to go away.
Nothing except that I've been challenged to. I already donate a fair amount to charity so making donations isn't the issue it's whether for something that started out for a specific cause I make a donation to another cause.
definitely dying down. i did my video not too long ago and had some fun with it. http://youtu.be/pP2M33fKz5Y
Lots of people do this. ALSA is the primary beneficiary, but lots of other charities have benefited too. Many people just do the challenge and donate to a cause more near to their heart. Dumping the water and filming it spreads the word about it. It's encouraged charity from people who don't normally donate. Charities benefit not just from money, but also from exposure - the latter generates more donors in the future. Except, of course, for the 3 million people that donated $100 million to them. For comparison, they raised $3 million over the same time period last year.
