Line up came out today. Kind of disappointing. They had a fake lineup that came out that had Little Dragon and Sampha. Was hoping that was true. Already knew Chance was getting the hip hop spot.
Bummer dude. I want to see The Killers and a few others but it didn't blow me away like last year's lineup. This year is the first year I actually planned on going to ACL. Don't think I will pull the trigger on this.
red hot chili peppers in 2017 are your headliner? really? people under 35 dont care about them and people over 35 have not cared about them for 20 years. is there anybody who is actually excited for this lineup? look at the first three rows...those are your anchors...the acts you are selling the festival on...and that is the best you can do? acl for the last few years has been quantity over quality, which i guess they can do b/c they sell out both weekends. but i would prefer they book less bands and spend more money on upper-card acts. i guess that is the trend with all music festivals these days though...three days of mediocrity. acl was better when it was only two days.
I don't think these festivals are aimed at music fans anymore. Most young people nowadays will know only maybe the few headline acts, but they still show up because it is the cool thing to do. The organizers realize that since almost every one of these festivals around the country sell out regardless of the lineup. I'm sure ACL will sell out as well. The under 25 crowd shows up to mainly just hang out and get some new pictures for their Instagram.
Well that's no 90's era Lollapalooza for sure. 1992 - Main Stage: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ministry, Ice Cube, Soundgarden, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Pearl Jam, Lush. This is true and this is why I don't do a ton on social media. I went to a festival in September that had a killer lineup for someone with my music taste. I was there and went to a bunch of shows and half the crowd couldn't care less about the bands. I use Snapchat because it is fun and Facebook ... barely. Every girl I have dated asks me to help them come up with a "cool caption" before posting the overly staged and filtered pic on instagram. Cool cocktail? You have to take it at the right angle with something cool in the background or it doesn't count. Going to dinner? Spend 5 minutes taking pictures while your food gets cold. Oh and bonus points if your meal is on something other than a plate, like a piece of wood. Hanging out with your friends somewhere? Be sure to tag everyone and check your phone 15 times to see how many likes you got. Things don't count unless they get posted. Social media has become the résumé of people's social life. It is a polished misrepresentation of reality. I just turned 27 by the way, I am not a grandpa.
I was there. South Houston, right? About 4 bands in, the acid started kicking as I walked up to the stage as Soundgarden played "Jesus Christ Pose" as I watched much larger men mosh/fight. Ice Cube with his entourage of gun toting acolytes and Vedder climbing the speaker tower were my other 2 highlights.
Sounds about like my memories of the show. Jesus Christ pose is my favorite sound garden song and I was entirely sure Eddie Vedder was talking directly to me when he said, "I hope you haven't taken all your acid yet"... and I had just moments before. We stayed right behind the pit most of the day watching that same madness. I had someone land on my head crowd surfing during Ministry. Sometimes when the weather is changing my neck still bothers me because of it. Great show though!
Damn, what a time to be alive. I've always wanted to see The Killers perform "Shadowplay" live so I'll probably go and hope they play it.
Holy crap Ministry was insane. That whole show made the Red Hots with their socks on cocks and flaming helmets and all that, it just seemed tame at that point.
i remember being coerced into buying one of those stupid zandek(?) family cassettes at lollapalooza 1992. and the jim rose circus sideshow.
Oh they are big, but they suck. Watched Eminem's crowd which had low energy, Kendricks crowd last year was bad. Only great crowd was Outkast but I was front row so it's hard to gauge.
I completely agree with what you said. Except for these guys (love them). This song's lyrics are also fairly poignant regarding some of the things you said.
