He signed with a Chinese team a couple days before the lockout ended. LOL. Now he can't get out of his contract. He has got to have the worst luck in the league.
It does NOT suck for him at all. In March when the CBA is over, he can come over to the USA and have his pick of teams. He could sign a one year $10 million deal and Phoenix would have the option of matching, of course that entire $10 million would count against the cap when the team signing him would only have to pay about $1 million of it. If Phoenix is close to the Lux tax, he could easily force his way out of there.....and the Lakers still need a PG. DD
his contract in march will be prorated. He gets stuck, misses out on the comfort resources, exposure of the NBA. He has horrible luck
Yes, but the total dollar amount will count against the cap, I believe. Bima would know more than me honestly though. DD
Hopefully Aaron Brooks is learning how to play point guard over there. Because, frankly, he didn't know how when he was here.
Not that I want to bet, but . . . why? The Lakers have no money to offer. I think they already spent their "mini-mid level" exception on Josh McRoberts. Meanwhile, the Suns still have Brooks's Bird rights and can sign him to any amount without regard to the cap. And oh, yeah, he's a RESTRICTED free agent whenever he returns from China, so Phoenix can just match any offer that he gets. Given how little the Lakers have to offer, the Suns would match so fast it would make your head spin. Carry on.
Actually, I think he'd be VERY smart to come back this season when he's done in China. I'm not 100% sure on this, but Brooks might be able to take Phoenix's qualifying offer (remember, he's a restricted free agent), play for a few weeks, and then become an UNRESTRICTED free agent next July.
Kenyon Martin might leave China soon. He's the highest paid player in China with $3.2million/5 months but production lacks in comparison (PPG is 35th in league). Also has some issues with management, they are not happy that the team lost 4 out of 11 games already when last season they only lost once in regular season and they were supposed to have "upgraded" during the offseason. There are American players who are paid 1/20 of Martin's salary and produce similar stats.
Someone explain to me how players are "stuck" there? Why can't they just up and leave? I would think they would just cease being paid. Is the NBA not allowed to sign players under contract in another country? Why would be the NBA be legally bound to terms of a contract in another country?
