I was wondering if anyone had videos or footage of the zone defense the Mavericks deployed last year. I remember watching their games and begrudgingly thinking holy s*** that zone is damn effective. From what I recall, it wasn't a traditional 2-3, 3-2 or a 2-1-2 but had various aspects of all of them plus man thrown in. The rotations were impeccable and it caused confusion for the Heat when they went against it. So my question is does anyone have footage of this defense or do they have knowledge as to what kind of zone it was?

Also F the Mavs, can't give that team too much credit without some hate thrown in.

I don't actually understand your explanation about "special zone defense", I don't get a point. If it's all about 4 guys defending the paint as a zone and one guy playing with a ball-handler one on one, it's called box-and-one. Celtics used it against LeBron pretty much effectively couple of years back.

    But I don't think that I a got a point

I think the D was "let them pass to Lebron and watch him freeze up".

It's just a good 2-3 matchup zone with aggressive doubles on the sidelines. It's more active than most zones, so it looks a little different.
