He is all-time triples leader for Seton Hall. There definitely was some truth to the doubles after 1997. I think he liked begin the league leader in doubles, it sounds good. Fun Fact: Jose Cruz hit 94 triples in his career, 80 as the leading Astro to Biggio's 55. Cedeno had the same 55 triples in 5144 less AB's, The great Craig Reynolds had the same 55 triples in 7458 less AB's! Triples or doubles loved Biggio's commitment. OK back to trade talk... The Bauer talk seems like a smoke screen to get the evil empire to pony up to me.
He has rubbed some people with the Astros the wrong way. He is seen as a low energy guy that sulks and doesn’t always give the best effort. Personally I question his natural feel for hitting. No one thinks he is trash or useless. It comes down to how much value does a corner outfielder with a questionable feel for hitting have, compared to maximizing winning now AND the replacement cost on the open market. Tucker’s feel and pitch recognition to me is very similar to Josh Reddick’s. How much value does a player have to a team when compared to the open market?
Comparing what kind of acquisition each pitcher would be: Bumgarner, Greinke = Verlander Syndergaard, Bauer = Cole Wheeler, Ray, Minor, Lynn = Morton
Huge HOPE that Bum would be Verlander cause he is nowhere close to that level right now And while I’d like everyone in that last group, I think you have forgotten how good CFM was (is)
Verlander was nowhere close to the level he has been when Houston traded for him; its why he cleared waivers and was available in August. Morton was a nobody when Houston signed him. Cole was a perennial underperformer. We can reasonably expect that whoever Houston acquires will be better with Houston than they were before.
Bregman is a prospect regardless of swing , and he lead to a parade. If Tucker is as good as Reddick, savings on having Tucker in the OF will more than half pay for Verlander's extension. I like Verlander pitching. The most valuable thing about prospects is the better players they allow teams to afford (unless they become stars).
Like Nook asked, how hard is it to find a corner OF? How much would a guy like Mancini cost? How much better do you think Tucker will be than Mancini?
I'd say his ceiling as a RF is Shawn Green Floor about like Reddick Bottom line is Luhnow has been hoarding this kid for 2 years now as our top hitting prospect He refused to include him in a deal for best Catcher in baseball when he passed on Realmuto among many other potential moves If there were serious attitude or talent issues w Ted, hard to believe Luhnow would've been so reluctant for so long He knew Appel was a mistake and moved on by getting value back in Giles early, rather than letting him pitch himself out of baseball in our system any longer He might be wrong, as he seems to be now by not dealing Martes or Reed when their prospect value peaked 2 years ago IMO Thor is the only guy on the board worth Ted Ideal #2 to lock in long term as Cole replacement once Brantley Reddick Yuli deals expire after 2020 Young enough to eventually replace JV as staff Ace down the road
If we get Madison B.. you could put him in between Verlander and Cole in the playoffs... just a luxury if they want to even do that.
Sources: Marlins getting involved on Greinke. Mad Bum to the Mariners? Sources say possible. Pirates looking at Bauer.
Bad teams just tired of the rich getting richer. They can take all the players the Yankees are going after.
