Mets were hoping to get a kings ransom for their Ace. But I think GM’s aren’t as emotionally driven as fans or some ownership groups. It’s different economics at work, Keutchel felt the tightening by teams of their salycap. At then end of the day, a team is only as good as the system they build in the majors and the minors. Sure some prospects will never reach the big leagues, but they contribute to the culture of an organization... if a team is devoid of all the hopeful prospects even the theoretical AAAA guys, it eases the competition that the other prospects face and hinders the outcome of the overall process... I think that is why we are seeing the sellers not getting the type of returns they used to in the past. However if a team feels it is one player away, I can see them trading some of their future assets for an all in scenario... but definitely not to build one.
Good piece on Robbie Ray. Seems like he would be more useful in the playoffs this season than as a starter next season. Think I would rather just roll with Wheeler (assuming they can get a reasonable deal) and sign/trade in the off-season than acquire Ray. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/getting-the-most-out-of-robbie-ray/
Astros are likely going to make a move or two. It should not take Whitley or Tucker for the Astros to help themselves this year much like Verlander trade didn't involve the Astros best prospects. This is probably the homer in me, but in a 7-game series with this offense and JV and Cole starting a majority of the games, I'm picking the Astros. Only concern is injuries.
I can’t tell you how happy I will be if the Mets “don’t get what they want” and hold onto him into a walk year. I love to see stupid unfold in real time when it doesn’t hurt or affect me.
That seems a little high. Rojas and bilek or Framber or Sneed or someone like that would be more my preference. I also know nothing.
Can’t fault a team for kicking the tires on other GM’s stupidity. Mets had a value for Thor this year, and they don’t look like they are getting it. They can trade him in the off-season and still get a good return... But Thor is a very talented player, and one that can be a difference maker.
Sure. But that wasnt in reference to Thor that was in reference to Wheeler who is in a walk year, kinda hurt and probably not worth a QO... not trading him would be... awesome!
The Mets look like they are trying to dump two guys that have not lived up to their potential despite several chances to do so. Thor is supposed to be elite, and he is only slightly above average. And Wheeler is supposed to be above average, and he's been well below average. They can't get value. I prefer Urquidy and Miley over Wheeler. I would trade for Syndergaard, but he does come with a lot of question marks and flags.
Ugh. F Maldonado. Better not give up another prospect as good as Sandoval. That was such a bad trade.
