Not a big deal but he’d be better off not saying it. At least publicly. It’s poor form to minimize the fans and their desire to invest in their local team.
We like our beer flat as can be We like our dogs with mustard and relish We got a great pitcher, what's his name? Well, we can't even spell it We don't worry about the pennant much We just like to see the boys hit it deep There's nothing like the view from the cheap seats
Just seems to have the profile of a guy who succeeds (scouts touting his stuff, overslot bonus, Luhnow mention, size/velocity). Then they put him in Tri-City’s rotation which was another good sign. He started tonight’s game and threw 4 hitless innings.
Korey Lee has not hit for a lot of power but the OBP skill seems to be real. I'd say it's been a promising debut from a raw player.
Another one who is an underrated Rule 5 risk. Overall, Houston’s system has had an excellent July/August. A ton of players showing progress, both position players and pitchers.
Any time a first rounder puts up average numbers in short season, it’s a disappointment. But his stock hasn’t really fallen, since short season numbers should be discounted for a host of reasons. He is still entering next season with a chance to be a fringe Top 100 prospect if he performs well in full season ball.
Cristian Javier @ Omaha: 5 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 8 K The two runs came on a home run. Javier finishes the regular season with 51 hits allowed in 113.2 innings. The most hits that he allowed during any of his appearances in the regular season was four, which occurred five times.
Any other under the radar guys worth keeping an eye on? Perry was an interesting pick - I think maybe the 2nd high school catcher drafted by Luhnow, with the other being Jacob Nottingham - another guy who picked up buzz pretty quickly. High school catchers are probably especially tough to project, so they must really like something when they see one.
From Fangraphs chat: 12:33 James: Who among the Astros’ Urquidy, Valdez, Bielak and Javier has the best shot at being a productive big leaguer? Given the state of the Astros bullpen their time may be now. 12:34 Eric A Longenhagen: Just big league roles? Javier, because of how the stuff plays. But Bielak is the best prospect in that group. Better breaking stuff than Urquidy, better command than the other two.
Luis Garcia turns in another outing with double-digit strikeouts: 6 IP, 3 H, ER, 3 BB, 12 K He'll finish the season with 168 strikeouts in 108.2 innings between the A clubs.
