This doesn’t fit the narrative on this board now does it?

Doesn't fit what he did with every QB he brought in until Rick forced Watson on him

Some interesting prospects today, but clearly the South was a better prepared team--45-16 whoooppppin!!!

He did get the best of what he could out of them, also I don’t believe the narrative that Watson was ‘forced’ on him.

I thought most on the board are pro-Bill and anti-Rick.

    I thought it was the other way around. I’m pro-Texans success(also pro-Deshaun)

The media has overrated BoB for a while now. Probably because he leaks them stories that make him look good.

He didn't really get anything out of Osweiler, Mallet and Savage. Fitz and Hoyer did ok, but they did for other teams too

I think it reasonable to assume that O’Brien may have taken a shine to Pat Mahomes...

I think it’s reasonable to say O’Brien was able to spend more time with Mahomes than Watson because of the timing of Watson’s scheduled visit and O’Brien having family obligations that conflicted...

It is clear Watson specifically wanted to come play for O’Brien. He and his QB coach and his QB trainer said so before/after the draft...

And I think it’s clear O’Brien gave Rick a lot of credit for trading up to get Watson...

I think that at the end of the day we’ve always tried to make the best decision for the team, for the organization and you have to give Rick Smith a lot of credit when it comes to Deshaun Watson. On draft night, he turned to me and said he wanted to trade up and go get this guy and I said, ‘go for it.’ I mean, he did a great job in doing that and getting that done and now we’re just trying to coach him up and he’s doing a good job. But, at the end of the day, it’s really more about us, what we believe is important, than it is us thinking about other teams.”

But I think it’s pretty clear who decided we would be drafting a QB with our first round pick:

Bob McNair wants a franchise quarterback: "Oh, yeah. Absolutely," McNair said. "Yes. The answer is yes."

"In the past few years, we've used most of our high picks on the defense," McNair said. "It's time that we went ahead and beefed up our offense."

"(Bill O'Brien) wants to get that franchise quarterback. Rick (Smith) wants to get it. Cal (McNair) wants to get it. And I want to get it," McNair said. "We all want it. Fans want it. We're all on the same page there. There's no disagreement.”

Anybody who disagrees can collect their severance check.

I also know that in the first week of training camp O’Brien said a few times that “Deshaun Watson is going to take this team to a Super Bowl one day” preceded by something to the effect of “I don’t know if I’ll be around here, but...” ...And that’s why everybody was so certain he was gone.

Nah. I don't think so. They're some of us that thought both were average. But for the most part, Rick is the devil, Morey is a god and Bill is the messiah.

You can find similar quotes from OBrien praising Osweiler, mallet, Hoyer, and Savage

Osweiler was a Rick Smith move, but he did try to make something out of nothing and Savage and Mallet were def on BOB no argument here

I think it’s pretty clear that BOB wanted Mahomes, but after that last meeting with Deshaun I think he was ok with either. And I give Rick Smith credit for getting Deshaun, he’s an elite 1st round talent evaluator. I learned to not doubt Rick Smith’s 1st round picking skills.

I thought they both should’ve been fired FWIW but I’d choose BOB over Rick

He comes from the Belichick coach tree, he will always say something positive about almost every player. I don’t take much out of what most coaches say unless it’s overtly positive or negative
