Can’t see either of them being here over Davis, who has mashed all year and been up a couple times but never really given a shot Agree any of them over Jake though. And with Reddick back and Kemp capable, the CF argument some give for Jake don’t hold up in my opinion.
The Tri-City roster has been updated. It'll probably continue to be updated as the draftees get assigned. Pitchers Bryan Abreu Luis de Paula Chad Donato Luis Garcia Ian Hardman Tim Hardy (LHP) Carlos Hiraldo (LHP) Juan Pablo Lopez (LHP) Hansel Paulino Juan Robles Nivaldo Rodriguez Felipe Tejada Catchers Oscar Campos Jose Carrillo Alex Holderbach Infielders Kyle Davis Trey Dawson Luis Encarnacion Jonathan Matute Jeremy Pena Juan Pineda Ozziel Sanchez-Galan Enmanuel Valdez Michael Wielansky Outfielders Seth Beer Gilberto Celestino Austin Dennis Carlos Machado Logan Mattix Andy Pineda Ramiro Rodriguez
Players are all different. It does not really matter where he ends up this year, look where he's at in August of '19. You gotta remember that this year, and then again next year, will the the most constant baseball this guy has ever played in his life. It does take a physical toll.
The last two years the Dodgers have had Chris Taylor and now Max Muncie come out of nowhere to perform like stars. Last year the Stros had Marwin do that - who is it for us this year? Tony Kemp? Evan Gattis? Kyle Tucker? One of the Reed/White/Fisher/Davis group? I'd like to see a breakout star this year, not asking for much.
Josh Rojas, who's come down to earth since a torrid start in AA, hit a two-run homer in the 8th that gave Corpus Christi a 2-1 win in Midland. Rojas now has six home runs this season; five of them have come in Corpus and the other came when he was in Buies Creek.
Gattis won't really count as a "breakout" star as he already had good seasons, Puig '17 would be a better comparison to Gattis '18. For us, I'd say Kemp or one of the three first basemen. Fisher had the most chances, and I think he's destined to be traded given we have Tucker in the waiting. On a side note, this is Federowicz's first game back in AAA since clearing the waivers. Tyler White was pulled from the lineup, possible call up? AJ Reed was ejected by the home plate umpire (I'm guessing he was arguing about the strikezone?).
Mickey Storey probably hopes he spends a lot of time in full season ball this year too... That quad cities offense is rather uninspiring.
According to fangraphs, Max Stassi has the 6th highest WAR among all catchers. I'd say that's pretty surprising.
All off season most were clamoring for an upgrade at catcher. For example Lucroy sign for $6.5 mil his 17 RBI are less than Stassi's part time gig of 18 RBI at $600K+.
It's pretty much the reason I wasn't one of them. With team salary becoming more of an issue with every passing season we need to find a way to integrate some cheap, productive labor. Stassi seems to be establishing himself as a solid backup/platoon starter. Him and Stubbs could give us pretty solid work at catcher next season for abut a million dollars combined.
