As of right now, the Astros have $3,049,600 remaining in their bonus pool. Tyler Buffett is in the College World Series, and Ryan Hartman's bonus has not yet been disclosed.
So assuming Whitley signs for slot, that probably leaves ~$600k to sign a guy like Avery Tuck. That's third round bonus slot money. I assume that's not enough to entice him to sign. Or could the thinking be that Whitley might require above-slot money to assure he signs instead of going to college?

Tyler Buffett pitching his ass off in Omaha: 8IP, 3H, 0R, 2BB, 6K, 100 pitches, faced 3 batters over the minimum, bullpen in for the 9th with a 1-0 lead.
On a totally unrelated note, he actually is related to Warren Buffett, who is a cousin of his grandfather's.
Also, Luken Baker for TCU (who was a late round courtesy pick by the Stros draft before last) is the best freshman baseball player I've seen in a long time. It's a shame he couldn't pitch past the first month or so.
And also again, I just realized Brian Howard (17) is pitching right now for TCU. He is a tall, lanky RH with an 88-90 fastball and decent movement on his slop, this is the first time I've paid attention to him. Oh, and the TCU pitching coach is none other than Kirk Saarloos. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/tcus-howard-responds-challenge/
I'm just gonna congohero the **** out of this thread... TCU's starting soph 1B is the son of Rafael Landestoy. http://www.gofrogs.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/michael_landestoy_876866.html
