Bayern's Hojbjerg to Sotuhampton for 15mil, good deal for us.

Götze in talks with Tottenham and rumoredly told German teammates he'll leave Bayern.

Whatever happened to Gotze? One minute he's the star at Borusia and scoring game winner in WC final and now off to Tottenham? Obvs didn't really get enought playing time with Pep but surely the talent is still there?

I think it is there, but he regressed under Pep, which is a damn shame. Hope he will get back to what he should have become.

Thing with guys like Götze and Özil is that their natural position (playmaking 10) is dying in football right now, so a coach really has to adapt his whole system to that one player (Arsenal and Löw did a good job for Özil). They're too slow to play at the wings and not athletic/defensively-sound to play as an 8, so the 10 is the only real position where they can flourish and unleash their potential.

It's obvious that Pep doesn't value that position at all and tried using Götze as an 8 and winger occasionally, but Götze couldn't be effective because of the things I mentioned earlier (athleticism, defense). Klopp used a different system with a true 10, where Götze could shine with deadly passes and occasional 1on1 situations vs slower central backs.

But still, it looks like Götze lost pace and tenacity, his movements looked much more fluid at Dortmund. Seems he tried to gain muscles and los his agiltiy in the process, bad mistake for a player of his kind.

Sooner than I thought. I figured he'd miss a few WCQs first and enjoy that time off.

Confirmed now. 16.5 mill seems like a lot for back-up but we'll see.

Damn what a shame. Should have given LFC a shot. We're making a deep playoffs run this year.
