At least we're making up for lost time. It feels like we suddenly have a good structure and formula to contend for years to come. We're just a few tweaks away.
Harden busted his ass carried the team to the playoffs (lots of those times leading those teams in minutes played), while dwight became teachers pet with mchale and created battle lines in the locker room
I wouldn't say 2015 was wasted. We did get to the WCF and had it not been for the Warriors, we probably win the title. I don't see LeBron sans Love or home court and with a hobbled Kyrie topping the Rockets. Especially if Bev could've returned in time for the Finals. 2014 was a wasted opportunity, but that was more on Harden than Dwight. James had a horrendous series. And 2016 I suppose was wasted although I'm not sure how far the Rockets would've gotten anyway with the 73-9 Warriors on a collision course with the Cavs for a Finals rematch.
Let me get this straight, he left here to be more active on offense in Atlanta but he is averaging less shots and less points and minutes in Atlanta? lol Oh the irony Dwight. Bud is a good coach and figured out straight away this guy is never going to be a efficient low post scorer and in an era of fast paced offense it was never going to bode well for a declining 30 plus big man. Not sure what our overall record was when he did not play, but I suspect it would have been 50-50 overall in terms of wins and losses.
McHale thought to himself: I regret going into coaching with the Rockets. 3 years being away from wife and kids, my daughter passed away. My career as a Celtic star tarnished, could have stayed with a network commentating on games........ We went to the WC but that is not enough with 2 superstars that did not listen to my coaching.
The record with him for his three years in houston: 34-37 29-12 48-23 They were better with him every year except the last which was dumpster fire. He was one of the main reasons we got to WCF. He was on the court for the game 6 comeback.Playoff Dwight was a beast. He is basically the only superstar who has come to Houston. Can't believe Rockets Fans can't get over it.
Dwight has been horrible for 2 straight years now, but it's revisionist history to say he was horrible his first 2 years in Houston. His 1st year in Houston he was everything we had hoped for. 2nd year was filled with injuries but in the Playoffs he was arguably our best player and was key to us beating LAC.
I agree. If we had a better coach I think Dwight would have worked here, Dwight really needs a tough minded coach. We needed JVG to get the most out of him I think.
Dwight comes across as a man-child. This was very evident in an interview he gave with the TNT crew after last post-season. Not a bad dude, but overly sensitive, perhaps; couple that with his honesty and he becomes an easier target: And his "big goofball" personality rubs teammates the wrong way. Anyway, he was able to dominate when younger but now his lack of skills can't mask the declining athleticism. Yes, a tougher coach might have got more out of him here. Or Dwight might have dug in his heels earlier than he did last season: "Dwight, go rebound, block shots, and play the Expensive Version of Capela: pick and roll!" "NO, I WON'T! You can't make me!" "Dwight, stop holding your breath, it won't work." I was excited when we got him; I stood out there in the 95 degree heat in front of the Toyota Center when he was introduced. (Anyway, got to see Dream and Yao.) It's funny that Morey had wood for this guy for years. After acquiring him, not so much.
I wish I could ban this sentence from every Rocket's fan and Dwight apologist. It's fine to defend Dwight but the "he chose us" bullet point is a garbage one. Makes me cringe every time I see it. Reminds me of what a battered woman would say..
