Damn, I'm out of touch with music these days. I don't recognize 90% of the artists mentioned in this thread.
Didn't realize Dinosaur Jr. came out with something new. How do you guys keep up with music news anyways? It seems impossible for me at this point in my life coupled with where we're at with the music industry (I don't listen to the radio either, I listen to the music I torrent). I'm either lucky enough to hear about it from a friend or Clutchfans or hear something new on Spotify. Bands I like have come to town without my even knowing because well, how would I know about it if I'm not actively seeking that info?
I did a poor job of keeping up with albums this year, so i'll probably try listening to a lot of stuff you guys post in this thread. The three albums I did listen to from this year that I really liked were: Imagine Dragons - Night Visions Lana Del Rey - Born to Die Of Monsters and Men - My Head is an Animal
I think my Bob Dylan freak credentials are well documented here, but man I cannot get into this album. And it's frustrating because so many others have loved it so much. I would put it in that rare category of nearly unlistenable Dylan records with Down in the Groove, Under the Red Sky, Saved, and all but one song on Knocked Out Loaded. And the only song I like at all from it ("Long and Wasted Years") is the one that nobody ever mentions in any of these rave reviews. I've loved Dylan albums the critics hated (Street Legal, Self Portrait, Empire Burlesque) and I've been lukewarm on albums critics deified (Oh Mercy) but I still listened to Oh Mercy maybe 1,000 times. I listened to Tempest one and a half times. I was trying to give it a second listen but I just couldn't make it to the end.
It's not you, CF has this trend that 90% of posters only mention indie/underground rock and jazz because it looks cooler than saying "the new coldplay album" or something major like that.
How many mainstream rock bands are there anymore? In DC there hardly is even a modern/alternative rock station.
Surprised you find it un-listenable. What about it in particular? His voice? If anything I would think people would find it pleasantly listenable to the point of finding it boring.
