Bobby Doran threw 5 1/3 shutout innings, allowed 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 10 for Corpus. The Hooks lead Midland 3-0, and Alex Sogard got the final 2 outs of the 6th.

Mike Foltynewicz also struck out 10, and he allowed an unearned run on 4 hits and walked 2 in 6 innings of work. Lexington and Greensboro are tied at 1 in the 7th.

Tropeano with a mixed, but mainly positive outing -- 7 innings, 5 hits, 1 walk, 7 Ks, but 4 unearned runs all coming in the 3rd (RBI double, 3 run homer).

DDJ being DDJ. Two out RBI triple in the 2nd, and catalyzed a 5 run 7th with a single and stolen base, advanced to third on a bunt, and scored on a single. Erik Castro then delivered a grand slam later in the inning, his 2nd of the game and 23rd on the year.

Interesting to see what they do with Deshields if he keeps this up. Only 10 games in, but he's continuing his .300+ BA with .400+ OBP, and 7 steals (which makes 90 on the year). Would he get the bump to AA to start next year?

So yeah, all of a sudden, I stopped recapping. Sorry, this is usually the time where I transition into football mode. Once again, I apologize (even though I feel like I shouldn't).

    Tuesday Stories

    Thanks for Robbie Grossman, Pittsburgh.

    Foltynewicz gonna Foltynewicz

Bobby Doran with a career night.

    Tri-City gonna Tri-City

    Recap

The slow decay of Oklahoma City continues with a 4-1 loss to the former AAA team. Matt Dominguez went 3-4, Brad Snyder had 2 doubles, and Angel Sanchez had an RBI single. Rudy Owens hasn't been bad since coming on board, but he hasn't been anything to write home about, either. In 6 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 4 hits (solo homer), walked 3, and struck out 4. Enerio Del Rosario allowed a 2-run shot to Leonys Martin in the 7th. Garrett Mock allowed a hit and struck out 1 in the 8th.

Corpus moves one step closer to a 2nd-half division title, and a playoff berth, with a 7-1 drubbing of Midland. Bobby Doran was excellent, despite playing with fire during a few stretches. He threw 5 1/3 shutout innings, allowed 4 hits, walked 2, and fanned a career-high 10. Doran threw 103 pitches (66 strikes) in this outing. Alex Sogard threw 2 2/3 scoreless in relief, allowing a hit, walking 1, and fanning 3. Arcenio Leon allowed a consolation run in the 9th. Drew Locke had a sac fly in the 1st for the Hooks' 1st run. Chris Wallace had a 2-run double in the 6th. Robbie Grossman went 2-4 with a double and a 2-run homer in the 7th, his 2nd as a member of the Hooks and 9th of the season. Austin Wates went 2-4 with a triple and an RBI single, and on the single, Jonathan Singleton scored on an error.

Lancaster busted out with 5 in the 7th to run away from Rancho Cucamonga 13-6. A huge night for Erik Castro, who sent 2 out. The first was a 2-run homer in the 2nd, and he added a grand slam in the 7th to give him 23 on the season. Not long after Castro's 1st of the night, Delino DeShields ripped a 2-run triple. He finished 2-4 with his 90th steal of the season. Domingo Santana went 3-4 with an RBI double and scored twice. Jio Mier went 2-5 with a double and scored twice. Andrew Aplin, Telvin Nash, and Grant Hogue each drove in 1.

Nick Tropeano allowed 4 runs on 5 hits (3-run homer), walked 1, and struck out 7 in 7 innings. But wait... all 4 of those runs were unearned. Kenny Long struck out 1 for the only out he recorded in the 8th. He also allowed a run, which Jorge De Leon inherited. De Leon allowed one of his own and struck out 1 in 1 2/3 innings.

Lexington's playoff hopes are fading, and that decline is accelerating with a 3-1 loss in 11 innings to Greensboro. Zach Johnson's RBI double in the 6th was the only offense for the Legends. Johnson and Jordan Kreke each had 2 of the 5 hits in this game; Jobduan Morales had the other. Mike Foltynewicz had to settle for a no-decision despite a stellar start. He went 6 innings and allowed an unearned run on 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 10. Murilo Gouvea (1 H, 3 K) and Dayan Diaz (2 H, 4 K) did their part with 2 scoreless innings apiece, but the Grasshoppers got to Tom Shirley with 2 in the 11th. Well, if there was a silver lining, Shirley did get 2 strikeouts. Bad news to report is that Nolan Fontana is now officially at the Mendoza Line.

Tri-City fell behind Brooklyn 2-0 after 3, but they ran off with a 5-2 win anyway. A 4-run 5th did the trick, with Preston Tucker hitting a 2-run single to tie it. Then, Jesse Wierzbicki had an RBI single, and Tyler Heineman hit a sac fly. Ryan Dineen scored on an error in the 6th. Juri Perez's lone mistake was serving up a 2-run homer to Nelfi Zapata in the 3rd. Other than that, he was fine. In 6 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. Jeremiah Meiners got the 3-inning save, as he allowed a hit and struck out 3.

Greeneville fell to Elizabethton 7-5 in the middle game of their series. The River hit a 2-run shot in the 1st for his first professional home run. Not wanting to be left out, Marc Wik sent one out in the 4th for his first pro homer. Terrell Joyce sent his 7th out, a solo shot in the 5th. The one run that wasn't scored on a home run was scored by Jose Fernandez, who came home on a Joyce single which was ruled an error, as Byron Buxton botched the play. Francis Ramirez went 3 innings and allowed 3 runs on 3 hits (2 solo homers), walked 2, and struck out 4. Joe Musgrove got the loss as he allowed 3 runs on 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3 in 2 2/3 innings of relief.

    GCLstros rained out.

The Academy, in a running theme to their season, lost. Again. This one was a 3-1 decision to the Indians, with Mesac Laguna getting the only RBI. Javier Saucedo had a bare minimum quality start, allowing 7 hits, walking 2, and striking out 3. Erick Hurtado walked 1 and fanned 1 in 2 hitless and scoreless innings.

I have it on good authority that as long as he can just walk a bunch he's golden.

My favorite draftee to follow. He made the NYPL his biatch. He's your classic old-school, top-of-the-order CF. No plus plus tools but he's just a ball player. He might put up 30 steals in half a season.

When we drafted him, they said he was a good defensive player, so seeing him play so well offensively really gets me excited. He's right there with Wates and Grossman as the next in line behind Springer and Santana. Will be interesting to see if he has changed minds about being a likely 4th OF.

Jose Cisnero, after a few shaky starts, rebounded rather nicely for OKC. He went 6 innings and allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 3, and struck out 5. He also helped himself out with a 2-run double in the top of the 2nd. OKC is leading Iowa 2-1 in the bottom of the 7th.

Looks like there's a delay in Corpus. While they are/were fixing the lights, this happened. Or, is happening.
