All "Of The Future Prospect Team"

    C - Castro
    1B- Singleton
    2B- Altuve
    SS- Villar
    3B- Paredes
    RF- Santana
    CF- Springer
    LF- Martinez

Bench: Shuck, Wates, DeShields, Mier, Kvasnicka
Rotation: Cosart, Lyles, Oberholtzer, Foltynewicz, Buchanan
Bullpen: Keuchel, Seaton, Tropeano, De Leon, Clemens, Armstrong, Houser

Add in the #1 overall pick this year, Luhnow's int'l signing expertise, a clear payroll, and the guys currently in Houston who may stick/surprise/be flipped for add'l prospects, and you have a bright future for the 'stros.

Hold up hoss. While the Astros system is easily the best its been in nearly a decade, it's still not a highly regarded system. Why? None of our prospects have put up a big season at AA or higher. Our system is actually probably middle of the pack.

Odds are we'll get at least a couple of productive big leaguers out of that group but until one busts out that great season and establishes himself as a star prospect, I wouldn't count my chickens.

I think George Springer did well enough in his first camp to be considered for the Lancaster outfield.

Domingo Santana in left, Jay Austin in center, and Springer in right with Emilio King as the 4th man?

Lucas Harrell with a very solid start today. 5IP, 0 er, 3 h, 0 bb, 11 ground ball outs. 0 k's though. His era dropped to 2.16. Quietly having a very nice spring.

Also, I don't care if it's spring training, I love any time the Astros kick carlos zambrano's ass.

    EDIT: Damnit...wrong thread

Very well put, sir. Only thing better would be a line drive off his shin.

    Thanks for the info!

I had to look up Jordan Kreke. He's a retread from the Atlanta system. His interview with Astros Country upon signing with the Astros is probably one of the funniest/saddest things I've read about the Astros system in a while

    Other observations:
Jio Mier: Repeating Lancaster (a terrible sign). Pretty much just organizational depth now.
George Springer: No training wheels here; the brass is putting the talented, but raw outfielder at High-A in his first full season.
Kvasnicka: Switching back to C and repeating Lexington. If he doesn't hit, he's done prospect-wise.
OKC has a ton of AAAA-level players and should be good record wise.

Also, none of those players are confirmed to be heading to OKC as of yet. They are highly likely to be there, however nothing's been said. My bad on that.

Don't get carried away. He'll be just 21 years old. It doesn't mean a whole lot, actually.

Mier spent half of last year in Lexington, and Villar is likely to be back in CC, which means Mier is stuck regardless.

More troubling is Bushue in Lexington for a 3rd season and Kvasnicka in Lexington again despite being 2-3 years older than the competition.

They did the same thing with Wates, having him start off in Lancaster. They must think higher of Springer's offense than most experts do to be starting him off at a more advanced league.

I was expecting Hinze in OKC, but I guess they could put one of Hinze/Singleton at DH in CC.

I'm guessing he'll be in Lexington. I see a few 2011 draftees heading there, so that would probably be the most logical destination.

Thinning out the herd a little more... http://whattheheckbobby.blogspot.com/2012/03/more-releases-and-retirements.html

Martin was probably a long shot to make it to the Major Leagues, but he would have been the first player from Swaziland (a country nearly surrounded by South Africa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swaziland)) to play in the Majors. OK, he was raised in Brenham and played at A&M.

4 more cut, and Carlos Corporan most likely heading to OKC to start: http://whattheheckbobby.blogspot.com/2012/03/more-roster-moves-from-saturday.html?m=1

That sucks about Arias. I remember the 2009 offseason, and thinking Arias & Gervacio should be our setup man & closer for 2010. Arias blew out his shoulder, and Gervacio suffered injuries as well.
