I continue to be impressed with our new braintrust. I was worried at one point that some of our hard fought acquisitions would be shaved off by other clubs during Rule 5, making our rebuild that much harder and longer. Having said that, we could lose some guys. I like that we made cuts to make more room for our potentials. I am not sure how these decisions would have come about under a different GM, perhaps about the same. But I see our original stated vision to be holding consistent. This is a good sign to me.

I dont know the minor league players well enough to say whether the guys we protected were all the right ones compared to the guys left unprotected. Since I dont see anyone complaining, I take this as a sign that we are more or less making the right moves.

    Good for us :)

    That's very interesting. Who though?

Lowrie is a given. Lopez, Wright, or maybe even Paredes? There isn't much we have that a solid team would be interested in. Unless Altuve is in the mix which I seriously doubt.

Wow, I didn't realize Norris was 27 already. Throw him in the mix too.

Isn't Carlos Perez eligible for the Rule 5 Draft? I thought he was signed long enough ago to be eligible notwithstanding his young age. What am I missing here?

According to the Farmstros database, he is indeed eligible for the Rule 5 Draft.

I thought he was supposed to be the organization's top catching prospect! I know he's still a bit raw, but I have to believe SOME team will risk using up a major league roster spot on him for a year to get him "for free".

Fingers crossed he goes undrafted. (I assume he's protected from the AAA portion of the Rule 5 Draft.)

It is easier to hide a Rule 5 pick at the end of the bullpen. End of the bullpen pitchers usually only see low leverage situations like blowouts.

It is harder to hide a Rule 5 pick as C2, where he would have to catch 1 or 2 times a week and to pinch hit 1 or 2 times a week.

Didn't exactly dominate in A+. Would be a huge waste of a roster spot. Not sure how many position players have been picked from such a low level.

Norris, Lowrie, Lopez..? We have plenty of organizational depth at this point. Wouldn't trade these guys unless we can get a noteworthy prospect.

Aguilar/Fields/Sulbaran/Chaffe are the most intriguing to me.
