After the 83/84 season, the Rockets won a COIN FLIP between them and Indiana (26 wins) on who'd get the first pick in the draft. At that time, there was a coin flip to determine which conference got the first pick (and the last year they did it this way before introducing the lottery system).

Indiana of course didn't pick as they gave it to Portland that year. Allowing them to pick 2nd. My question is: If that coin flip went the other direction, Houston would have ended up with the 2nd pick

Who do you think the Rockets would have picked.

By the way: I left off Jordan because I thought the Rockets would have the 3rd pick, but apparently they still would have had the 2nd pick if they lost the coin flip.

    I don't assume anything

IIn this scenario, Dream would have dropped to 3. I truly believe that

Dream in Houston was Destiny and the rest as they say is history

Apparently there was talk that if Portland would have drafted Olajuwon (Which they wanted to do) then Houston wouldn't have taken Bowie. And when Houston won the 1st pick, Portland reportedly offered Houston Drexler and their 2nd pick for Ralph Sampson. Interesting

You mean their 2nd pick, not 2nd round pick, right? If they traded Sampson for Drexler and the 2nd pick, they would likely pick Jordan.

Yup, just fixed it. 2nd pick. It appears Houston was high on the towers of Sampson and Olajuwon to make that trade. If they would have had Olajuwon and Drexler I don't think they would have picked Jordan as the 2nd pick though. Who knows what that would have been.

The Rockets passed on the GOAT and it was the correct decision.

I do not believe in any reality where Clutch City is not real.

    Clutch City was destiny.

The made it to the NBA Finals with Sampson and Olajuwon.

Sampson got his hip injured and the Rockets should have ended his season. However this was the 80s so he played on and his hip issue messed up his knee etc. This is why all the old players have it bad, Bird, McHale etc.
The modern NBA would have shut these players down.

Again, I hate what ifs. But Ralph was a significant player, a Kevin Garnet player before his time.

Dream going to UH then going the Rockets and bringing Houston glory is the perfect story.

Keep in mind, sorry international fans, this was for the city of Houston and Houstonians. We had no championships until the Dream brought us glory.

In no scenario do I wish that changed.
If someone wanted to tamper with history, I would not hesitate to send cyborgs back into the past to terminate you.
