I remember watching that game on TV live as it happened. It derailed the Pacers organization for years.

Yeah I remember that was the only thing showing on ESPN the rest of the night. They replayed it over and over and over

me too, I think it was on espn. The early to mid 00s was a bad time for basketball. The quality of players seem to have greatly improved since then.

I remember that night as well. Going into the stands was wrong to begin with, but it was 100x worse because Ron hit the wrong person. If he would would have punched the one who actually threw the beer at him, then my thought would have been "at least he KO'd the person who threw a beer at him". Again, as a professional basketball player, it is wrong to go into the stands for any reason, especially with intent to harm a fan. But considering that Ron and Capt. Jack were already heated because of their "scuffle" with the Pistons earlier, and couldn't keep their emotions in check, throwing a beer at a player sparked it all.

Yeah just read that it was the guy in the blue shirt next to him.

Also didn't realise that Mark Boyle (the radio broadcaster who Artest was talking to as he lay down on the scorer's table) was trampled when he tried to hold Artest back, and suffered five fractured vertebrae and was gauged in the head...

Ben Wallace got a nice pass for this . .. .cause Artest went into the stands
Artest was a good player . .. . never the same after
that was a well constructed team

    Could have been a contender

Yeah I think so too. No one ever remembers it was Wallace who initially instigated everything.

That Pacers team was stacked and I still think they would have won the championship if not for that.

I watch this from time to time every so often because the commentators crack me up.

"I don't think we'll see Artest play tomorrow night against Orlando."

Artest may have cost Miller his one last shot at a ring.. That pacers team was pretty bad ass.
