by the time houston plays the clips it'll likely be meaningless for houston and even perhaps for clips also. not worried about pels. a lot of games are getting a little too much hype to think this stretch is a bigger issue than it is. At this point it's just about staying healthy and maintaining a good rhythm going into the playoffs and which includes win or lose. but of course every loss comes with kneejerk lashes

How far we go in the post season will all be about matchups. The averages / ratings are helpful in sorting out how everyone stacks up against the total NBA population, but to advance in the post season, we have to beat the 4 specific teams in our path in 4 best of 7 matchups.

Just for kicks, here's the net ratings of the 13 teams with winning records playing against one another. (There is some error induced in these calculations due to rounding and these averages are weighted by games played against each opponent.)

    GSW +10.8
    SAS + 3.9
    TOR + 2.64
    CLE + 0.89
    UTA - 0.18
    LAC - 0.49
    WAS - 0.57
    HOU - 0.89
    BOS - 1.21
    MEM - 1.69
    IND - 3.48
    OKC - 3.78
    ATL - 3.91

Yeah that is not good - we are not so great against good teams.

sigh. if only we had a sturdy 7-footer to anchor the middle. We'd be so much better. I'm serious. :p

    18th in defense now.

I think Lou makes us better in offense but hurts the defense a bit

I see 14th on the ESPN Hollinger page. I'm fine with that, but we need to be better in the playoffs.

Basketball reference has #1 offense and #18 defense.

Not sure if the offense can get better but the defense can

can you deduce the month of the november for the defense ?
because it was the first month of the defensive system being installed with new coaches, many new players and bev wasnt even playing

i agree, just gotta make our shots and make the other team miss theirs. win the game and dont lose it. play harder and with more energy. and take at least 1 mid range jumper per game.

Rankings are a bit of a trap because there's an upper limit on #1, if you're #1 on O but number #30 on D then people will say you're average even if your offense is 3x the offense of the 2nd ranked team. In the same way, if you're #8 on defense people will say you suck even if there's only a few digits away from rank 1 and rank 8.

Lou Will getting minutes hurts our D, but he helps our O so much more the value he brings outweighs his cons. IMHO we will totally see his value in the playoffs. iN the playoffs Anderson will likely get shut down and be ineffective (as has been 90% of stretch 4s in NBA history), and we'll need another guy apart from Eric Gordon who can score and draw attention away from Harden. Lou is that guy. With him, EGo and Anderson helping out Harden on the team I'm confident we have a chance against anybody in the league.

The other fallacy of the rankings is that we've been markedly worse since our torrid start last year. We were 31-9 to start the season until Jan 10th (.775). Since then we've gone 18-13 (.581). The overall season rankings give just as much weight to November as they do to this month, which doesn't seem right as we get nearer the playoffs. Some of the other posters have shown the breakdowns by conference and against only winning teams which is a useful screen, but I'd ask how do we stack up against wining teams in the western conference since Jan 10th? That should be a good counterfactual to the irrational exuberance that the season long rankings could induce.

Man I hope we play like gang busters from here on out and end up with the greatest offense of all time. How vindicating would that be?
