"This is something that I've never seen in my career, and I know that it doesn't happen very often," Parsons told ESPN.com on Thursday. "When a man gives you his word and an organization his word, especially when that organization put in so much effort and I walked him through this process and was very, very open and willing to work with him, it's just very unethical and disrespectful." There is enough irony in this quote to start the next Iron Age in motion.
I just don't get Parsons. Where does he think his credibility comes from? He played some decent years that were good relative to a 2nd round pick. Because he overachieved, he was offered a contract way beyond his worth, partially a result of two feuding in-state rival GM's. Now he thinks he is the face of a franchise. Why? In any quantitative sense, he is just another player.
Seriously I don't get it. Parsons left Houston to "be the man" aka franchise player in Dallas and also get paid like one. He even said it plainly in his rant above. A year later the Mavericks pull all the stops to land Jordan whom Cuban claimed would actually be the cornerstone franchise player and would be "Shaq-like" in Dallas. So clearly the Mavs weren't sold on Parsons as "the man" and if things had worked out with Jordan then Parsons would be like 3rd best player on the team behind Jordan, Dirk, Matthews, etc... How's that situation any better than playing 3rd banana to Harden and Howard? The only conclusion is that he left for money but then again it wasn't like a whole lot more than he would have earned in Houston. Sure Morey wanted to secure his 3rd superstar Bosh before throwing a max deal at Parsons, but either way Parsons was going to get paid. With the events of this week, the thing that stands out the most is that Parsons agent Dan Fegan doesn't always have his clients best interest in mind when pushing them in the arms of Cuban. That is perhaps the biggest travesty of the past two summers. Jordan much like Howard before him saw right through Fegan-Cuban fascade and chose otherwise, Parsons not so much and perhaps that is the vitriol that is subconsciously seeping through his rants this week.
P Yes, we all see that now clearly, but Parsons in his most recent rant continues to play the narrative of wanting be the face of the franchise as the primary reason for leaving Houston. Yet, the Mavs have made it very clear that they felt otherwise by pursuing Jordan as the soon-to-be face of the franchise. So, Parsons is still delusional and lashing out via social media. He needs a reality check. Someone needs to sit him down and explain he is not a franchise player material and will never be, but it's okay that he chose to make more money which most role players often do in his situation given an inflated market and a buyer willing to pay. That is all I'm really looking for from Parsons. I don't mind that he took the money. However, he keeps pushing a narrative that even his own team has dismissed this week.
Honestly, I don't it's that big of a deal to Pippsons. It'll give him more time to develop into a Lebron-type player and eventually take take torch from Lebron as the best SF in the league. lol
I mean I know that to be a professional athlete you have to have an ego and quite a bit of self confidence, but I've never seen a player that is more delusional about how good they are. He's a nice role player, nothing more, nothing less. Yet this joker thinks he is the face of the franchise. Any franchise that he is considered "the face of" is bound for the lottery as he's about to find out very soon. This guy is such a douche. I can't believe I actually was bummed that we lost him last year.
The star has back-to-back-to-back first round exits under his resume and he'd be lucky to get that far this upcoming year.
Parsons isn't even close to the level of talent Tmac had. Without looking at history, Tmac is by and large the better player. I may be bitter since I'll never forget Parsons just giving Lilliard that 3 pointer eliminating us, but Tmac > Parsons
What a read that was. It's like his goal is to come off as the biggest douche to ever live. "I'm a trendsetter man, everything I touch turns to gold."
