Finally, the NBA draft is here, and we will finally get to find out tonight which rookie of the 2015 NBA draft class will have the honor of adorning a Rockets Jersey this upcoming season. If a trade from the 18th spot doesn't occur, the top two players being mocked to the pick appear to be Tyus Jones and Jerian Grant. Both players bring different qualities to the table, and both could be solid contributors to this team. The question is-Barring no trades, who would you pick? Tyus Jones or Jerian Grant? Imo, Jerian seems like the more NBA ready prospect, and for a Rockets team that is currently a playoff contender, I don't think the team has the time to wait for Tyus to develop the aspects of his game, even if he is seen to have greater upside. Jerian has great size at 6-5, and is a very decisive playmaker/distributor, which is something this Rockets team needs currently. Jerian can also provide acceptable defense, and his game in that area of the court can still improve to become even more capable. Even though Tyus is also a very skilled floor general, currently I just have too many questions about Tyus's game as a whole, and i'm not sure if he has the athleticism required to excel in the NBA. Combine that with his sometimes inattentive effort on the defensive side of the ball and average height at 6-1, and I am not sold on the Idea of drafting Tyus. I think Jerian should be the pick, and I actually have a feeling that Morey might be secretly keeping his interest in him low, in order to assure he is available. I'm not enamored with an unathletic 6'2" PG in todays game. If he had handles to match his shooting, I would be enthused. However, I don't like the fac tthat Jerian is 23 by the time the season starts and has he peaked. Last but not least, neither will contribute to our title aspirations. So toss em up, I actually think getting a skilled PF that can make FT's and 15 foot jumpers is better in the 1st round. Then select Andrew Harrison in the 2nd round, he's Tyus Jones but he's 6'6" in shoes, shoots it well, and can finish at rim.
Would you guys think I'm crazy to offer: Terrence Jones + 18th overall + next year's first for #4 and draft mudiay?
Sam Dekker to me is probably the biggest boom-or-bust prospect in this draft. I wouldn't take him simply because he's been wildly inconsistent in college, and the NBA is a whole step above that. Making shots in a tournament will not just ease any of the concerns I still have about his game.
The Knicks would. You'd have to include a bit more. Maybe even a 3 team trade. But I would love to have Mudiay and if the Knicks draft Kaminsky, there's a chance he slips to 6. Which is feasible.
Maybe I'm just overly optimistic, but I have a feeling that we trade away #18 (along with other pieces) for... something else. I don't know what. A veteran player? A star? A higher pick in this year's draft? But maybe that is completely wrong. For the sake of this thread- assuming that we stay at 18 and assuming that both Grant and Jones are still available at that point, I think I would prefer Grant.
I think we would have to give up Capela + Jones + 18 to get mudiay That is quite a haul for #4 when the obvious three best players are gone
Yea I like Grant more than Jones. Versatility is the key, and Grant should be able to immediately contribute in a back up 1/2 role. He also has the size to bother some of the WC point guards should he ever develop into a starter. I really like the idea of trading down to say 30, and picking up Rozier. He reminds me a lot of a younger and slightly better offensive PBev, and he is an absolute pitbull on the defensive end. Probably won't ever be a starter, but could be a valuable piece of the bench in a year or so.
1. Rozier is predicted to go late in the first and he struggles as a facilitator/distributor. Granted he is a capable shooter that has solid defense, we aren't necessarily looking for that. We have that in Patrick Beverly 2. The two names being thrown around are Tyus Jones and Jerian Grant at 18(Barring any trades). 3. I seriously doubt the Rockets would either trade up or down to draft him.
want a PF thats known for shooting, and can hit free throws if we use the 18th pick. we need a vet at pg with harden neither one of these guys will get respect from harden like that and maybe will be in d-league anyway
I've been looking at Grant, and he looks a lot more like a Rockets draft prospect to me. He's a senior and can potentially create off the dribble. Morey, BTW, won't be picking a PG just because we need one, so you guys can drop that logic.
