Seems like they did alright. Security at Parliament probably would not have saved the soldier at the war memorial. The shooter got into the building and one other guard was injured before the suspect was shot. Maybe security should be better, but they came off without a calamity. Of course, if the shooter had been just a bit luckier and it could have been Canada's Dealey Plaza.

Unfortunately, quite a few of them exist and incidents like these may encourage other maniacs to do the same. This lone wolf stuff is impossible to track, we may see more instances of this unfortunately. Prayers to the victims and to the family of the shooter for having to be associated with him.
