All, I find myself in the extremely unfortunate situation of needing to talk to a divorce attorney. I hear the Cordell and Cordell commercials on the radio all the time and I might give them a shot. But right now I'm looking for some recommendations of someone that is reasonable but solid. This could potentially get a little contentious. Bonus points if it is someone I can come in and have a brief consultation with without getting charged out the wazzoo. Thanks for your help.
Wish I could be more help. I have used Avvo (the yelp for lawyers) in the past to help me find an attorney and it helped me tremendously. http://www.avvo.com/divorce-separation-lawyer/tx/houston.html I don't have any personal experience with divorce lawyers though, sorry. Good luck!

Really sorry to hear it, man. I don't have any advice because I was stupid and just wanted it over with. Just make sure you protect yourself and your money. Good luck.
Went to high school with this guy. Try him http://www.eastlandfirm.com/affordable-family-law-office-attorney-lawyer-houston-divorce
Blake, do you know him well enough to know that he is a good lawyer? Or was this just an acquaintance?
http://www.fabiomerrill.com Thea handled mine. Did a great job. Reasonable priced. My normal lawyer referred me to her. Rated in a magazine as top 10 divorce lawyer in Texas. But my whole thing set me back sit 2500. Hope this helps
I have a friend who's a great family law /divorce attorney, but she's in Cali. I will share her main advice: "my first two meetings with any client are free and I focus completely on seeing if there is *any* possible way to keep the marriage together." Good luck to you.
I was kind of hoping to find more divorce lawyers who would have a free consultation...but it seems they all ask for at least $200 for just that. I'm really not even sure yet what my options are so I kind of balk at paying that kind of money if it's possible I can't even get the divorce I want.
Really sorry to hear about your situation RL. That really sucks. I don't know any divorce lawyers, but I wish you the best.
He is supposedly a good divorce lawyer, but I don't know anyone who has used him (only a few of my friends have divorced and none in Houston....yet)
Check your feedback. I have used her for a long time now. She helped me with getting custody of my son and with many things since then. An example would be when my ex-wife would drag her feet on reimbursing me for doctor bills. She took her to court without charging me, I received my reimbursement, and she made it where my ex-wife had to pay all of her legal fees. The judge told my ex-wife that if it happened again that she would fine her on top of the reimbursement and legal fees. I did not even have to show up to court for any of this. I have referred several different people to her in the past and she has never charged anyone for an initial consultation. Obviously you will have to negotiate your own contract with her but she has always been insanely fair. I 1000% recommend her. I don't envy your situation. Good luck.
