(Woj) Sampson to become University of Houston Head Coach

We need a whole new coaching staff that instill defense in this team. We're trying to run this squad like the D league Vipers and that ish ain't going to cut in the League! Too many good players to think we can outscore everyone. We need and can't get stops on the defensive end. Any champion plays D and rebounds at a high level.

 

Lesser teams have surprised. Dallas in 2011 comes to mind, I don't want to hear about our championship teams being lesser seeding aside there was a Dream that could not be deferred. If Dwight, James and Beverly are healthy throughout the playoffs anything can happen.

 

He's made it clear before that he wants to be a head coach somewhere.

He interviewed for other head coaching jobs around the league before this season.

An opportunity opened up and he took advantage. No big deal.

 

Of course it's better. Many head coaches in college football were former NFL assistant coaches.

Texans coach Bill O'Brien and Nick Saban just to name a couple.

#1 McHale and especially Morey think very highly of Sampson. Morey let him go because it is in his contract and Morey has known that Sampson wanted to be a head coach for sometime. Hell, Sampson almost didn't come back this season and Morey talked him into it.
#2 Sampson didn't leave abruptly. He has been discussing the UH job since before Dickey resigned. Sampson was on probation until 3-4 months ago and in eligible to coach at the college level without sanctions.

 

How many seasons until the Coogs are being used investigated for NCAA violations? I'll give it 2 seasons.

 

Considering what got him in trouble in the past is no longer illegal... My guess is no time soon. Sampson also knows it is his last shot as a college head coach.

Levines new raise pays close to 1.2 or so mil. Sampson was asking for 1mil a year ath. Stepped up.

 

Would Hakeem be willing to travel with the team? He would be an inspirational figure for the guys.

We need someone else to whisper strategies to McHale during the game. I think JB is more visible than Finch, so JB may be it.

 

It depends on the guys we recruit. It just so happens that the guys we have on the team are not two-way players.

Offensive strategy which is analytics-driven is different from defensive strategies. Didn't Morey say that he's still looking for ways to quantify NBA defenses.
