Dwight Howard and Parsons for Kevin Love Asik/Smith Love/Jones/Dmo Casspi/Garcia Harden/Brewer Beverly/Lin/Brooks
A trade with the Denver Nuggets would actually somewhat make sense. If they're planning on tanking; they would probably want to shed Wilson Chandler's contract or someone else. They have a glut of forwards and they are in need of a true C, even if they've tied silly money to Javale McGee. Asik is still quite young and a valuable asset for whatever plans they have moving forward - whether they want to blow it up he'd be a valuable asset, and if they wanted to consolidate talent and chase a low seed he'd be a perfect piece.
Knicks reportedly offered Shimpert for Faried but Nuggets wanted more... <style type="text/css"> table.tableizer-table { border: 1px solid #CCC; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif font-size: 12px; } .tableizer-table td { padding: 4px; margin: 3px; border: 1px solid #ccc; } .tableizer-table th { background-color: #104E8B; color: #FFF; font-weight: bold; } </style><table class="tableizer-table"> <tr class="tableizer-firstrow"><th>Rockets:</th><th>Dragic</th></tr> <tr><td> </td><td>Plumlee</td></tr> <tr><td> </td><td>8.4M Trade Exception</td></tr> <tr><td> </td><td>2014 1st Round Pick from Suns</td></tr> <tr><td> </td><td> </td></tr> <tr><td>Nuggets:</td><td>Lin</td></tr> <tr><td> </td><td>Jones</td></tr> <tr><td> </td><td>2014 1st Round Pick from Suns</td></tr> <tr><td> </td><td> </td></tr> <tr><td>Suns:</td><td>Asik</td></tr> <tr><td> </td><td>Faried</td></tr> <tr><td> </td><td>Brooks</td></tr> </table> * Suns own four 2014 1st round picks
You just traded 1.5 starters for basically Dragic? This team doesn't need to be looking at draft picks! Championship man
If this is even a remote possibility I hope Maori is looking into it. Manimal is like a mini Howard out there, and Chandler would offer defensive help at the wing...great all around game like Parsons.
Have you watched the Suns this season? Plumlee is athletic like Greg Smith but taller at 6-11 with very good defense. He's a FC so maybe can play twin towers with Dwight. Plus locked into 2 more years after this season on an end of the first round rookie contract. It's not just a 2014 first round pick, but a 8.4M trade exception too. Asset accumulation for Aldridge or some other star in free agency. It's happening!
That's an interesting idea. Houston does it, Milwaukee does it. Cleveland I'm not sure. If Varejao gets back into top form (and he seems to be getting closer), then this deal doesn't really improve the Cavs. It makes them a bit younger, but costs them a decent pick. I'd actually consider just taking Varejao+pick for the Rockets, if that's available. Ilyasova is a better offensive fit, but a healthy Varejao is a better player and you get a solid pick on top of it. Dwight-Varejao would be a terrifying defensive pairing, it makes much more sense than Dwight-Asik on both ends.
Faried has considerably more value than Asik alone. No way they throw Chandler in there as well. Chandler would be a good fit for us though. A more realistic deal with Denver would be Asik for Chandler + Mosgov or Arthur. Mosgov is a serviceable backup, and Arthur is a solid mid-range shooter for a PF.
This is the type of Asik trade that we're probably going to see. A three-way deal where Houston gets a PF who represents a big upgrade over T. Jones/D. Motiejunas, Asik goes to a team that believes Asik is the missing piece, and a first pound pick plus expiring contracts go to the team that is trading away the PF to Houston. The other scenario is a two-team deal, where Asik is traded directly to the team that views him as the missing piece, in exchange for the first round pick plus expirings, or for a promising first- or second-year player plus expirings. Here is a list of teams that may be willing to cough up a nice pick or prospect (plus expirings) for Asik: Cleveland. As others have noted, Anderson Varejao + a first round pick works. Varejao is about as good as Asik if/when healthy, by the way, so this turns into quite the heist for Houston if/when Varejao stays healthy. And it's easier for Varejao to stay healthy if he's getting 16 minutes/game (rather than 30+). Portland. Robin Lopez's expiring contract + either a first round pick or C.J. McCollom works. By the way, don't be surprised if D. Motiejunas is included in this or any Asik deal, as sweetener. Boston. Kris Humphries' expiring contract + a first round pick works. Humphries is a good backup C for any team. Boston is less interested in "tanking" than is speculated, IMO. Detroit. The expiring contract of either Rodney Stuckey or Charlie Villanueva + a first round pick works. Detroit would then presumably turn around and trade Asik to somebody else, or maybe they'd keep Asik and trade Greg Monroe. Milwaukee. Caron Butler's expiring contract + a first round pick works. Like Detroit, you'd expect Milwaukee to turn around and do something else. It should be obvious to all Rockets fans that there are all sorts of Houston-Milwaukee trade scenarios involving Asik and/or J. Lin and/or a third team. Charlotte. Ramon Sessions' expiring contract + Cody Zeller (stretch four?) for Asik + Motiejunas works. Charlotte is dumb enough to actually consider doing this, IMO. Orlando. Jameer Nelson's pseudo-expiring contract + a first round pick works. Washington. Marcin Gortat + either Martell Webster (REALLY good and highly undervalued player) or Otto Porter for Asik + Motiejunas works, I think. Utah. The expiring contract of either Andris Biedrins or Marvin Williams + a first round pick works. Sacramento. John Salmons' expiring contract + a first round pick works. Again: Houston can trade Asik directly to one of the teams above (two-team deal) OR Houston includes a third team, wherein Houston receives somebody good (presumably a PF) from somebody else (three-team deal). And again: THIS is what Rockets fans should expect, rather than a blockbuster deal for Love or Aldridge or Bosh.
HOU out: Asik, Motiejunas, Brewer, 2014 1st HOU in: W.Chandler, T.Young Dwight-Young-Parsons-Harden-Beverley, with Lin-Chandler-Jones etc off the bench is an uptempo team with an identity that can defend decently enough. PHI out: T.Young, Turner PHI in: Shumpert, Motiejunas, A.Randolph, HOU 1st, Arthur Philly decides to cash in on Turner's hot streak and tank. Young, while solid, has no place in Philly's future. MCW-Shump-(Parker/Wiggins/lottery) is a great perimeter for the future. D-Mo and another '14 pick sweeten the deal. Randolph has a tiny bit of hope left. DEN out: W.Chandler, A.Randolph, Arthur, 2014 1st DEN in: JR Smith, Asik, Brewer Shaw wants a smart, physical team that can defend. Asik fits perfectly. Smith goes back to Denver to give them a legit perimeter scorer that they've missed without Gallo. Brew is serviceable and defensive. NY out: JR Smith, Shumpert NY in: Turner, Fournier, DEN 1st NY changes up their perimeter by letting go of Smith, who's redundant with Melo, and getting a guy who can pass/create in Turner. Fournier has upside and can shoot/handle. The pick helps in that they need some future assets.
me and you both know donatas, that a healthy varejao is an oxymoron. also the second problem is perception and value, varejao is perceived less and thus less value. whereas, asik is perceived highly and thus more valuable. the rockets arent looking for a backup c as the centerpiece of their trade. even if he can space the floor and provide minutes at the 4 with a TT approach. i think were definately trying to get away from any semblance of a TT, unless its a aldridge/horford/bosh type player; who is indeed a 4, but can play spot minutes at the 5.
