Look at Omer Asik? His improvement could very well be because of McHale (Which is an underrated coach for big men) Howard is here with McHale and Hakeem teaching him now that's the best place!! Free Throws? Hey even Yao Ming can come in to help he did shoot 90 percent from free throw line

Positions like the presidency of a union are less about education and more about leadership. That kind of position is really about three things: hiring the right people, maintaining the right culture/priorities across membership, and being able to get members to follow whatever decisions you make. You don't have to be the smartest guy in the room, you just have to find the smartest guys and pay them to give you the right advice. Then you have to be able to implement those decisions across your membership. When it comes to negotiating time, the president doesn't need to read and understand the entire CBA, but he/she does need to know what the major negotiating point are and how to best leverage them for membership. Again, this is where hiring the right people and being a strong leader come into play, because negotiation is largely about prioritizing what you want and putting yourself in a position to extract it from the other side. The best way to do that is to be the kind of leader that everyone knows membership will follow - including to a strike.

LeBron James might actually be a good fit. He's not the same kid from Akron that everyone thinks of - he's an adult now - a father, in fact - and has managed to navigate his way through professional sports, competitive locker room personalities, the brightest media spotlights, and global endorsement deals. There are a lot of guys who have had less pressure who have faltered, whether that be personally (e.g., having an affair scandal, getting a DWI, etc.) or professionally (e.g., falling out with the team, arguing with coaches, saying something racist, etc.).

I'm not saying he's the best choice, but you can't dismiss the guy just because he hasn't had a college education or isn't what we traditionally would call "book smart". Most of the players in the NBA never finished college, and it's not like they focused on "how to run a union 101" while they were there, either. Offhand I'd say the guy who probably has the most "credentials" on paper is Jeremy Lin, who has a degree in Economics from Harvard, and honestly I doubt he'd be a better candidate than LeBron James.

I think Kobe is about the worst choice possible to represent and lobby for the best interests of others. He is one of the most egotistical and arrogant athletes in the history of professional sports. He still thinks that he is the reason the Lakers have won 5 rings since he has been there, instead of realizing and admitting the truth that Kobe has never and will never be great enough to win ANYTHING on his own. He only wins rings when he has a future HOF Center to lead the Lakers.

Kobe is only about Kobe. He recently said he wouldn't take a pay cut, even after his injury, to help the Lakers sign more talent and ease the luxury tax burden that his contract is mostly responsible for. A self-serving egomaniac like Kobe will never be the correct choice to represent the best interests of the players of the NBA.

Dishonest? He's been under media scrutiny since he was a teenager. I think LeBron is a guy who has shown that he can adapt and he's maturing into a true leader. IMO

LeDiva isn't hating because he's not jealous. Almost all the bashing has come from bitter or jealous team/front office rivals and their media shills.

    ^^^^THIS^^^^

Well said. Repped. BTW, that ESPN board is even more brutal than here. Can't believe reading some of the things people are saying about Lebron in the comments there. No college so what? Some of the smartest and most accomplished people on this planet never went to college.

The latter would win about 6-8 rings in a row.

I respect LBJ for his comment mentioning the growing core of Howard,Harden, Parsons and Lin. Yes, LOH will say hes not part of the team but LBJ the best player in the NBA acknowledges Lin exists.
