Morey is just waiting to see if Howard sign with Rockets or not, then Rockets can go ahead and do sign and trade with Atlanta. No way Rockets can do contract offer to Smith right now because we don't know yet about whether Howard will join us or not. Rockets is just on wait and see mode. If Rockets make contract offer to Josh Smith right now, then we wont make max offer to Howard. So thats why.
Sam Amick: Warriors & Dwight ? I liken it to the Clippers when LeBron was a free agent. It was a big deal that they just got an invitation. That's what I make of the Warriors candidacy. I don't think we'll see Dwight wearing a Warriors uniform but important for them to be there.
Yes sir. It's not like we don't have a promising, exciting, young roster - WITH cap space. There have been a few non-trades that have been blessings in disguise - a non free agent signing could be one as well.
I think most people will be somewhat annoyed if we sign Smith to a big contract without Howard. Not helping yourself. You did hit the Thomas Robinson situation pretty well, and noted that the Rockets love D-Mo, and wanted him to bulk up, which he apparently has. I'd just be surprised if the Rockets lock up their cap flexibility on Josh Smith if it's not part of a Howard deal. $10m per year, maybe, but going $14m+ seems very un-Morey like.
Me thinks People are reading way too much into this. Howard and his handlers are trying very hard to repair his image as a waffling quitter. Therefore he is only going to say positive things about all of his free agent visits, is only going to list virtuous values in picking a team (winning > fame) and will do everything to prevent The Decision II. Therefore he had to say something about ATL and GS, so he complemented the coaches. Thus, because this whole process is fake, we have no idea what Howard really values and where he ends up. I do know that if his agent has sway, there is no way in hell Dwight will be in Rocket red.
Yep, and that is also why we might not hear anything until later in the week. Or, God Forbid, next week...
