    for us at least

I mean Otis brought TOUGHNESS and Strength
I thinking more and more the YAO/CATO combo
is more of the HAKEEM/OTIS combo
    and I like that

The Reason I like MoT off the been is
OFFENSE . . .our second unit is not that
offensively talented. . . MoT is the goto guy there

Otis was not that offensively talented but he had EXCELLENT hands
[man i use to love watching him get a one handed rebound and
sling it down court with the same hand]

I think Cato's assignment for the summer is to study Otis Thorpe's
    game and attitude

    No,

Cato does not have the game that OT had.

The Pick and roll with Kenny Smith & OT was deadly.

Also, OT had pretty soft hands and a great one handed finish.

Cato...well, he writes good children's books.

    :)

I think Cato can learn . . . Maybe we need to do like Dallas
and just bring in a bunch of coaches. . Otis should show
    Cato what to do . . ..

Cato's hands have always been a source of frustration for me

but come one DADAMAN . . . have *some* optimism

    Rocket River
seen New Jack City this weekend . .. forgive me

You are right on Double D. OT could run the pick and roll great. OT was the tough guy without having to put on an act like one. I loved to watch the wars he had under the basket and without a word to refs complaining about fouls or pushoffs. He should have been a quarterback with his full courts passes on breakaways. I was sorry to see him go but apparently he didn't want to work on his shot and he tended to stir things up in the locker room.

Otis Thorpe? Hell, I'd settle for Billy Paultz out of the power forward spot right now...

No he can't, because unfortunately we don't have another backup center other than Cato, so he's destined to remain our 2nd center.

Though, personally, I think it'd be great to see Cato & Yao on the floor at the same time.

    Bring back The Whopper!

OT could run the floor and was actually a good finisher on the break. Wouldn't want to get in HIS way. But since the Rockets never run anyway, it's a moot point.

I think Cato is a good back-up to Yao, but if we could get someone else besides J. Collier, then I would invite the idea of having CATO/YAO combo...

Yao seems to be the only one hustling, trying to get into position, but he needs help...

I don't know. Thorpe was a great offensive rebounder, had decent 15 foot jump shot, and could dunk really well and that was about it for his offensive game. Cato has about 2 out of 3 of those qualities.

Also, using your pick and roll comparison, the problem isn't that the current "Thorpe" is weak. The problem is that the current "Smith" is lacking on that particular play (I figure you, of all people, can appreciate a little Steve of Moochie bashing). I've noticed that Steve seldom passes to the rolling player after the pick. Instead, he'll either pull-up for an "open" (read: lightly contested, but shot on the move) 3 or try to cut to the basket into the trees.

Something we agree on. A lot of people forget, but Thorpe was a lottery pick. Cato just isn't in his class. Otis Thorpe grabbed rebounds in the air with one hand. Cato has the hands of bizarro Superman.

Yeah, I've never seen Steve or Moochie throw Cato an alley oop on a pick and roll.

The only person Steve hasn't worked the pick and roll well with is Yao, for whatever reason.

Cato can be our 2003 version of"Otis Thorpe" under the following conditions:

    1) succesful bilateral hand transplants, and then........

    2) demonstration that his shooting range exceeds 2 feet from the basket.

    Shouldn't be a problem :D

I concur. Cato can't shoot (even as well as Otis). Cato's hands are bad.

Cato doesn't seem as fast, either, though my memory is sketchy on that point.

Cato has been wonderful. HE'S NOT AWESOME. But god....at least he knows his role. He's like the only one who knows his role. But I don't think he studies a lot. He should relax...he has done good. Only if he got a pay cut...

Cato should be our starting PF or C. Grif should be the backup PF and Mo Taylor should be the backup C. Rice should be our starting SF and Posey should rarely see playing time unless he reverts to his off the ball offense and plays REAL defense. What happened to Morris' playing time? This team needs a kick in the rear and Rudy is afraid to do it. If he doesn't do something soon, we'll be the best team that didn't make the playoffs again. Yeah... that's fun.

Cato can't start because he doesn't have a jumper.
