Which Players on the Rockets Roster Should Daryl Morey Cut?

Haha! I was just about to check if this poll was valid in all 57 states.

 

Y'all hate on Fortson too much, he's actually OK. He's the classic moneyball pick. He's short, his game is ugly, his jumper looks like crap, and his dreads make him look like a D-League scrub, and for this reason most people simply see him as a 'D-League Guy,' but he's actually a pretty efficient scorer and an excellent defender and rebounder. Something made Morey choose him out of all of the available pg options. It was funny to see all of y'all saying how bad he was and how good Machado was after a summer league game where statistically Forston performed far better than Machado.

 

I get that they won't get cap relief & that the money cannot be used elsewhere. That is why I was saying that the Rockets might as well not cut him.

Okay, good. But the fact that the cash from NYK originally came to offset Douglas's salary should not be used now as an excuse to keep him. That cash is fungible and has no business being associated with a decision on one particular player.

That said, I think that Douglas is a safe bet to make the 15-man roster. He can defend and (at least until last year) hit the 3-pointer. Also, his $2.07 million salary is a little harder to justify eating than those of other "non-core" players like Forbes ($1.5M), Johnson ($1.1M), Livingston ($1M of $3.5M), Brockman ($1M), Smith ($381k of $782k), Machado ($237k of $474k) and Fortson ($0).

 

Courtney Fortson running away with this thing. Makes sense, seeing as he's completely horrible.

Am I missing something? Doesn't that leave us with only a single PG?

My first cut would have to be Johnson, considering he has made it public that he doesn't want to be here. We can accommodate him.

Beyond that, I see no need to keep Brockman or Livingston. They have very limited potentials. The fourth cut is very hard, but I would cut Greg Smith and try to offer him a RGV contract. There is no chance he sees the floor unless PPat is seriously injured or D-Mo plays the 5.

 

Courtney sucks.. But what's even more interesting was the fact that he was the 7th overall ranked HS player coming out in 08'

These are the "no brainer" moves.

Can't see why we'd keep Forbes (Martin, Lamb, Delfino all ahead of him at SG) - so most likely he's the 4th cut.

The advantage of a Douglas is that he's already played NBA, and we know he can bring the ball over half court, pass it to White, and then stand somewhere and shoot the 3. That's a higher skillset than any of the guys who will get cut can offer!

I'm glad I was in the majority. He looked lost when he played, I don't know how he got a contract this year last season.

 

"Am I missing something?" Yes, you're forgetting about Machado and Forbes (who was a backup pg in Toronto). Johnson has nice upside and had great collegiate accolades. Maybe he can get it together.

Yup, I knew there was someone else, thanks. Dumb oversight. I still think Douglas deserves a spot, though.
