This guy is ridiculous. He's leading the AL in average, stolen bases, and slugging .550. I'm betting nobody has ever done that before and he's 20 years old! So who's the best Angel? Weaver, Pujols, or Trout?

Trout is nothing short of incredible. Even with those eye-popping numbers, I still can't help but feel like he's overshadowed to a certain degree by Bryce Harper just because Harper has been more of a household name for a few years now.

Unless I'm missing someone, you'd have to go back to Cobb and Sisler. Jackie Robinson came close with a SLG of.528

As of right now, Trout's "pace" in a 162 game season is basically 30 HRs, 70 steals, 150 runs, and nearly 100 RBIs - as a leadoff hitter.

Mike Trout is putting up numbers not seen by a leadoff hitter ever! He got 5 tools for sure! Hit for average, slugs for power, runs bases well. Only thing he doesn't do is pitch haha!

I think it's the other way around. Harper is having a great, great rookie season. One of the better ones in the last decade or 2 I would think. (I haven't looked)

But Trout is having a top 5 rookie season ever. An MVP year. I think Harper is being overshadowed by Trout...but rightly so

Anyway, Trout is incredible so far. I'm happy I've been able to witness this. And I can't believe the Angels aren't on pace to win at least 100 given Trout, Trumbo, Pujols, and that staff..

Somehow I was able to 'steal' this guy in the 9th round of a 7 player keeper league...

    Whew is right Max!

Harper is having a decent season. I wouldn't call it "great, great" by any stretch. Through 70 games...

    278 ab
    .273 avg
    58 k
    29 bb
    8 hr
    26 rbi
    45 r
    11 sb
    .450 slg
    .343 obp

Certainly not bad at all for a 19-yr old...but nowhere near the level of what Trout is doing. Trout is first in avg at .352...2nd is Norichika Aoki at .288. He's 1st in OPS @ .994...Harper is 2nd at .793. He's played only 1 game more than Harper as of today. What Trout is doing is historic.

It's not so much that Harper's season measures up to Trout, kaleidosky conceded that. It's more that Harper's about 14 months younger than Trout, and what he's done is pretty historically great for a 19-year-old. Obviously what Trout's been doing is amazing considering his age as well, but A-Rod, Ted Williams, Mantle, Mel Ott, and a few others had years that were about as good at the same age.

Doesn't take anything away from Trout, but I do agree to some extent that Trout's amazing year (and as of right now he's my pick for the AL MVP) is overshadowing what Harper's done as a teenager to some degree.

Trout is now at .408 obp, .600 slg, and 31 steals which leads the majors. Never seen anything like it.

yeah...this guy is going to fuel the angels winning that division...as a rookie. that's nuts when you consider the makeup of that team.

The good thing is we'll get to watch him more next season and the bad news is we'll get to watch him more next season!

Am I going out on a limb saying this kid is likely to be one of the greatest baseball players ever?

Yes. While what he is doing is truly historic, there's way too much extrapolation to expect him to keep this up for decades.
