That's not the point. When you have the organization + your face of the franchise basically dissing the contract, something's wrong.

I have to say, I completely understand where Knick fans are coming from. Imagine if someone had come along and been able to poison pill Landry and pry him away from the team when he was a RFA a few years back right after he'd broken out. Whether it would have been justified ot not, thes boards would have been out for blood. People would have been calling everybody in the Knicks organization all sorts of names, and Landry would haveen reviled as a traitor as well as a fool for leaving the Yao marketing machine.

The anger should be directed at a poorly thought out rule, but it is impossible to be mad at an abstraction, so the anger gets directed at the most convenient target.

It's just human nature. You shouldn't take it personally.

And with respect to Melo, he has a reputation, and his poor form here only reinforces that reputation. IMO, if you see it as much more than that, you are wanting to see it as more.

Knicks fan should be more irate at the signing of Felton.

Watching him dribble looks like a bigger ball is dribbling its little sibling.

Why spend your $$ on that scrub??

Lol. You are not very smart. When your organization has been a laughstock for years....as well as the face of the franchise....no one gives a **** what you think.

Anyways, the only reason they are dissing the contract is not because of the terms (length and money of the deal). It's because of the positions it puts them in with the luxury tax in the last year. A position they would be in because they are the laughingstocks of the NBA when it comes to managing their player finances adequately.

Just stop. You don't know what you are talking about, at all.

I'm glad you remained vague because I think you would have a hard time explaining whatever the hell you are trying to compare.

    A more recent article

As Anthony's comments would suggest, there could be concerns among the Knicks about Lin's contract and how it would be perceived by his teammates as well. New York veteran shooting guard J.R. Smith, for example, is a far more established player in the league yet he recently signed a two-year deal that will pay him $2.8 million in the first season and has a player option in the second. In an interview with SI.com on Sunday, Smith spoke as if Lin would not return to New York. The Knicks, however, have not indicated that they made a decision as yet.
"I'm sure the city would love to have him back, but the team decided to go in a different direction," Smith said. "It's nothing personal, I don't think, just business. We just hope everybody can benefit from here.
"I don't really know how Mr. Dolan feels at this point with what the luxury tax is now and what it used to be, but I just hope it works out the best for both of them."
Asked if Lin's contract could cause a challenging dynamic with his teammates, Smith agreed.
"Without a doubt," he said. "I think some guys take it personal, because they've been doing it longer and haven't received any reward for it yet. I think it's a tough subject to touch on for a lot of guys."

This kid has a 3 year 25 M contract and Knicks fans are blaming him for their cap hell?? Even with his 15 M in 2014, he is still going to be the fourth highest paid Knicks in 2014 (Camelo Anthony's 24 M, Amare Stoudemire's 23 M in 2014 and Tyson Chandler's 16 M)

If JR Smith can be the #1 jersey seller in the NBA and highest seller for Knicks merchandise then I'll understand if he throws a tantrum.

As the saying goes, You are worth what someone is willing to pay you.

LIN spells $$$. Therefore its not as simple as who's "more proven" on the basketball court. Lin's marketability is PROVEN. When we're talking about dollars and cents, that's all that needs to be said!

This stance by Smith is probably more prevalent throughout the league than not, but its basically bitterness in the form of envy.

Sour grapes, no one wants to pay money to see some miscreant named JR Smith.

Apples and oranges. Smith is a talented headcase with no marketability at all. Lin is extremely marketable and puts lots of dollars directly into the team owners' pockets. If the Knicks re-sign him, it's because they're confident he'll make them back all that money.

Sometimes contracts are about more than just balling ability.

Lin is great for a tanking team. His name will keep $$ going into Les' pockets while the Rockets Linsanity their way to a top 5 pick! ;)

The thing is, MSG made ~$85M in net profit for the last 12 months (rolling), will Jeremy Lin really make them what he would cost + luxury tax, in excess of $45M (estimates as high as $70M+ in year 3)?

What if Linsanity dies down next year, who can the Knicks trade Lin to?
