People who say Scola isn't injury prone are missing the entire point of the OP. Yao wasn't injury-prone when he played every game for 3 straight seasons(like Scola). Yao doesn't rely on athleticism and played below the rim in general and rarely jumps(like Scola). Yao is an international player who plays for his national team(like Scola).

Yao then proceeded to have an injury basically every year...

THIS SOMETHING WE CAN AVOID WITH SCOLA BY TRADING HIM. IT'S STILL NOT TOO LATE! Others still haven't caught on that Scola is the next year. We must trade him before it's too late.

Five Star thread. This is the type of analysis the Rockets need to be a championship contender.

The Rockets are already young. You're asking them to quit the NBA to join a HS tourny.

Hadn't Yao been through an ankle/knee surgery before he was in the NBA?

im starting to think that now is no longer the right time to trade him. youve lost (yao) or traded (battier) some of your veterans. you need veterans on your team or youll turn into the pacers.

and despite that contract, he's consistent enough to get you 20points a game, without needing athleticisim to do it. meaning he'd still (hopefully) produce despite getting old.

of course the biggest concern is that big contract. if you can get a couple of young guys for that contract it would be nice. but then, where would you put them? i guess a better option is package him and a couple of our young players and ship him to a team and get back something we need.

like scola for noah. give them clee to make it worth their while. or to the bucks for bogut. or to the pacers for granger and hibbert. give them veterans to steady their ship.

Scola has grown on me especially after last yr, but this team is in a different place. If the rockets want a real shot at williams and howard, they need to trade scola to open salary and to develop patterson or another 4 man.

Compared to the mediocre season we've had with Scola?

Honestly anyone that thinks Scola is untouchable, well i'm glad you are not in the front office. The dude is 30 years old and while he may be our best player, we are going nowhere with him.

I love the guy but the team is in a different mode right now, and it's better for both parties if he can go to contending team and if the Rockets can get a prospect or even a draft pick out of that.

With Martin he's just a bit younger and out of the vets I'd like to keep him around...but IMO I'd like to see Lee and 2Pat start so...in my world Rockets trade either of these guys to move up and then draft Enes Kanter.

Scola is a great player, on a reasonable contract, who contributes to winning.

Having said that, this is probably a good time to trade him so that we can pursue our dream of a championship in the medium-term, and he can pursue his dream of a championship in the medium or short-term.

We are far better off allowing Hill, Patterson and Thabeet develop while potentially netting a younger big man in a trade, ditching some salary commitment, and improving our draft selection.

If the offer is right, he should be gone sometime next year.

On any championship team, you need a mixture of younger players and veterans. This is common knowledge.

Keep Scola to support the young guns. Plus, he's averaging 20 and 10 for cheap and he's a leader on the team. We already lost Shane. Who else but Chuck, Scola and Kyle can take that roll?

Brad Miller can, but he has been struggling most of the year.

Scola has been vital to the team this year. This thread is something of a knee-jerk reaction, but there's a grain of truth to it. You can bet Morey won't hold onto Luis for sentimental reasons. Especially if Scola + Depth We Don't Need (Jordan Hill, Thabeet, picks?) can help land Bosh (not phenomenally better, but an All Star who might get the team some benefit-of-the-doubt calls) or some such player.

Still, let's not write Scola's epitaph just yet. A couple games missed isn't the apocalypse.

You must spread some reputation around before giving it to leebigez again. Scola is a very good player. The Rockets are not a very good team and probably won't be while Scola is still in his prime.
