Okay you just crossed into the full of **** zone. There's no way anyone can now how serious Redick's back is and that's good reason to avoid drafting him but luke wasn't half the college player that Redick was. As far as backs go I was married to a chiropractor and I just pulled my back a few weeks ago and I could almost not move, I mean 1 inch in the wrong direction and I was in excruciating pain. But because my wife is a Chiropractor and treated me immediately I am now completely recovered. Still even then it took a couple of weeks to feel back to myself. It's not the first time I strained my back and it probably won't be the Last but it's just like any other muscle strain it can happen to anyone and can be very painful only moreso because your back is your lifeline. It doesn't automatically make it chronic or permanent. The thing to check is does he have a history. With all the games he's played and all the minutes he logged has he missed any games with back problems. I don't think anyone is advocating draft him with the 8th pick anymore but if we can't get Roy and could move down and get 2 picks I would definitely consider him with 1 of them. Yeah sure it's a risk but every player drafted is a risk. There's no guarantees with backs but there's also no guarantees with Roy's knees and a healthy Redick would help the Rockets immensely.
I think your right to a degree, but the difference is you ask relatively little of your back compared to what a professional athelete has to ask of his back. At that high of a level even the smalles injuries can slow down players enough to make them irrelevant. Now we never thought Reddick was going to be a guy who scored because of his athleticism anyway, but given he on the small side for a guard and he was expected to get shots off because of his quick release, I think his back injury could be concern in allowing him to get his shot released in time. That being said, I would still draft him but hopefully in the early 2nd round... If we could get him or Guilermo Diaz I would be happy.

Rondo Roy Bargnani Aldridge Gay Lowry and possibly Thabo, although I still prefer Redick. Redick's career is still on an upward arc. He hasn't hit his zenith yet. Good call, DaDa.
Houston already had Redick -- his name was Matt Maloney; and Houston had him when they had a guy named Olajuwon guarding the paint.
Redick plays decent D now; or, at least, he did when I've seen him play during the last two seasons. I was certain he was going to be a bust after his rookie year. Instead, he bulked up, and improved his game. He's not just a catch-and-shoot specialist any more. He's a competent 2 now, and still improving.
you are comparing matt maloney, a point guard first of all who had a good career in the ivy league to redick who is a pure shooting guard, not a pg at all, and dominated one of the most athletic conferences in the nation? then in the nba he translated over not just to being a shooting specialist, but holding his own defensively and being the most conditioned athlete in the game(as said by van gundy, and he won the iron man contest in his team, beating dwight howard even), but his awareness passing has shown he has a place starting in this league, maloney was a rockets experiments who was decent but the experiment didnt work and he was out of the league where do you compare there games? them both being white?
