Something tells me Emperor Stern is going to have quite a bit to say about this.

Doesn't sound like a bad idea. The rationale for changing the name to the Wizards was weak in the first place. Did changing the franchise's name really change anything? At any rate, politics doesn't have a proper place in basketball.

Here's some background on that decision for those who didn't know(ESPN Insider)...

Change the franchise name to reconnect with their past while retaining continuity with the present.

    Washington Bull-ards.

The team's name should never, ever have changed from the "Bullets" to the "Wizards" in the first place. The Arenas/Crittendon fiasco should have no bearing on the decision to change the name back to the Bullets.

Think how many lives have been taken by [r]ockets on both sides of the fence in Gaza. Should we change our team's name to the "NASAs" or the "Texians"?

I thought the original name change was stupid, especially in the same town that stubbornly refuses to alter their racial slur NFL team name.

No way can you change it back today after Arenas.

    The Washington Cherry Blossoms? LOL

It has to. Had it never happened, I think they could have gotten away with it. They already had to overcome the unfortunate coincidence that DC has a long history of violent crime. To have members of the team involved in a gun scandal in the locker room? You have to appreciate the very real outcry from parents. It matters. The NBA paying customers aren't all single males.

Houston (a) has the NASA connection so rockets are simply associated with space travel and (b) doesn't have an obvious history of rocket attacks. Different story.

Not a lot of Houston residents have been killed by rockets. But, a lot of Washington residents have been killed by bullets. Remember the monkeysphere.

Bullets was a better name than Wizards, and it still has more history. But, don't change now; it's too late. Just build the new brand by keeping stability and making some history on the court.

Funny coincidence how our team name happens to reflect our space culture when in fact it came from san diego and was a strange reference to a fast paced lifestyle of that time period, from what I've read.

Worked out well for us aside, let's name them the Washington gunners. Could mean they are aggressive or have guns in their lockers

Yep - worked out a lot better for us than the Utah Jazz

Current era of teams leaving the name behind when they move is a lot better.

It's probably the worst name in the NFL, but it's not nearly as bad IMO as Jazz, Heat, Lakers, and Thunder.

change it back to bullets. it's not like changing the name to wizards helped lower crime.

like the miami hurricanes, hurricanes killed a bunch of people too, but they aren't changing their name
