Yao will most likely resign at a discount. Dude has made his money and he doesn't appear to be an ego maniac who thinks taking less money means he is being insulted. Battier expires near year too. Who will be available to go after in FA?
Not only that.. This team has moved forward with no Yao or T-Mac, so no sense in going backwards.. Signing Yao is unfair to Yao and the Rockets.. Yao does not fit this team and he will slow the progress of Landry down.. Time to kiss and say good bye...
This is also why I am in favor of the Iggy/Dalembert trade. After next year you could resign Yao, Battier and Dalembert at reduced numbers. In fact if you did this trade only Ariza and Iguodala would be on the books, everyone else either has a team option or qualifying offer.
I really do hope Yao and Les can come up with some wink-wink agreements with money under the table from Les' Chinese ventures. Then Yao can say stuff like "I will sacrifice salary for winning blah blah blah" and get a reduced deal. Then we'd have some money under the cap for the summer if necessary. Elton Brand - $80 mil/6 yrs Baron Davis - $65 mil/5yrs Magette - $50 mil/5yrs I can go on and on with crappy contracts. Yao will get his money somewhere. As for letting Yao go, what are we going to do with the leftover money? You honestly think anyone near Yao's caliber will come play for us? Letting Yao go means 2+ years of "tank mode".
8million 3-4yrs keep yao? so crazy! don't insult his loyalty. since you so underestimate him,why not let hime go
8-10 mill a year for a player of his caliber is not going to get it done. If Yao were to take a paycut he'd realistically be making ~13+ million a year. He's most likely going to be offered close to the max by some other team willing to take a chance on him.
Next year should be his last year with the Rockets, unless he wants to do one of those Roger Clemens "Home Town" special contracts for 5 million a year. If he has a good year next year, I do believe many teams will be lining up to give him BIG MONEY.
Big surprise coming from you! And you guys amaze me with how you believe Yao is a max player considering he doesn't even play. Elton Brand, davis...etc those guys have crappy contracts, but to compare them to Yao in terms of health is folly. Might as well just throw money out the window if you are to sign him for more than 8 mil!
Rockets is not the center of the world, not the only team in the NBA. If Yao plays well next year, he will just sign with another team with a big contract. You can try to see if 8-10 mil is enough to sign any good big in the league. Be realistic!
All this loyalty talk is BS. If there was truly loyalty in sports Jordan wouldnt have been a Wizard, Malone a Laker, Montana a Chief, Farve a Jet/Viking, etc...... At the end of the day the Rox should offer Yao whatever contract amount they feel he is worth and Im not sure thats even the 8-10 million some people suggest. They shouldnt do anything as a favor to Yao because it is silly to think they owe him anything. Similarly, Yao should go out and get the best deal for himself. If that means a max or close to max deal on a crappy team so be it. If that means a huge discount on a legit title contender so be it. If it means staying with the Rox for a discount so be it. Whatever he feels is best for him, Yao should do. He doesnt owe the Rox anything either. In a perfect world Yao signs the 3 year, 24-30 million dollar contract that people here propose. But if Im him, and its that contract or a 6 year, 100 million dollar deal from a team like the Wizards you have to at least consider option B.
8-10mil MAX for yao, with the way the salary cap/players union/potential lockout is going. this is one thing im glad stern is trying to get done, no more ridiculous contracts.
Yao is not worthy of the max, agree. Carl Landry is already in his peak right now. He is a 13~14/5 guy. No more progress for CL
Right now we just wait. Then when he's back, we see how he does out on the court under different situations over an extended amount of time. Then, we explore the possibilities and make a final decision that benefits everyone.
