    Blazers Sign Perdue, Re-Sign Augmon

PORTLAND, Ore., Sept. 13 — The Portland Trail Blazers announced today that they've signed free agent center Will Perdue to a two-year contract and re-signed free agent guard/forward Stacey Augmon. Per club policy, financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.

"We are very happy to announce the addition of Will to our roster and that Stacey is remaining with the team," said Bob Whitsitt, Portland's team president and general manager. "They are both talented veteran players who bring additional experience to our roster."

    Perdue
A veteran of 12 NBA seasons, Perdue spent last year with Chicago, where he averaged 2.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 67 games played.

Perdue has been a part of four NBA championship teams, the San Antonio Spurs in 1999 and the 1991, 1992 and 1993 Chicago Bulls teams. Originally drafted by the Bulls in the first round (11th pick overall) of the 1988 NBA Draft, Perdue has averaged 4.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in 779 career NBA games.

    Augmon
Augmon, who has spent the last four seasons with the Blazers, averaged 3.4 points, 1.9 rebounds and 11.7 minutes last season. Drafted by Atlanta in the 1991 NBA Draft, Augmon has averaged 10.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game in 628 career NBA games.

The Trail Blazers open their 2000 preseason schedule with an Oct. 12 matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers at the Rose Garden. The Blazers open the regular season Oct. 31 against the Los Angeles Lakers at the Rose Garden.

I guess they will carry only 2 guards on the roster, Stoudamire and Smith.

    Perdue
    Sabonis
    Kemp
    Davis
    Sheed
    Quitten
    Shrimp
    Antonio Harvey
    Jamel Thomas

All of those players are Forwards or Centers.

Harvey and Thomas most likely will be cut. Bonzi Wells and Greg Anthony, their backup guards, already have contracts for next season and are both very good players. (esp. Wells)

I know you look at Portland and see 12 guaranteed contracts and think that is it, but remember this is Paul Allen. He could care less if he had 20 guaranteed contracts. Either that or Bob is just looking for another post. [IMG]

The Blazers are the Yankees of the NBA. They are buying themselves a championship.

With all those big bodies to throw at Shaq, The Faker$ don't stand a chance.

Fisher's injury hurts the Faker$ also.

Buying a championship? I think it was the Marlins that coined that phrase. Geeze, they got all those players for a year and then POOF. They were all gone and the Marlins went from 1st to worst!

Yeah, imagine those poor season ticket holders. Big league prices for minor league baseball. What a crock
