You're the next contestant on "See if You Can Stick as the Houston Rockets' Point Guard!"

    It's a good news/bad news game.

The good news is that the long-term starting job is up for grabs.

The bad news is that the Rockets -- with All-Stars like Yao Ming, Tracy McGrady, and now Ron Artest -- have been in need of a point guard for a decade, and now that Rafer Alston has moved on, it's clear no one has stuck.

The good news is that you're no longer stuck behind the emerging Mike Conley.

The bad news is that if you'll have to compete with Aaron Brooks.

The good news is that you're not alone.

The bad news is the sheer number of contestants who have moved on. It's a little daunting. A partial list, from recent years:

    John Lucas
    Rod Strickland
    Rick Brunson
    Rafer Alston
    David Wesley
    Charlie Ward
    Tyronn Lue
    Brandin Knight
    Mike James
    Reece Gaines
    Andre Barrett
    Mike Wilks
    Mark Jackson
    Tito Maddox
    Moochie Norris
    Bob Sura
    Steve Francis

First of all, Lucas was "the guy" when he was here, so they should have started this post-Lucas. Secondly he let out the most disastrous name since then: Maloney (contract).

And most importantly, this team wants the 2 point guards they have and I can't remember that being the case since Lucas crashed and burned.

Surprise, surprise DD got the V-Span reference in there.

How long was Rafer point? It seemed like he was here somewhat long enough to be considered successful...we just traded him before he got too old.
Same thing can be said of Francis, but we traded him after a year w/ a new coach.

Sura could still be here, if he hadn't had those injury issues. He was one tough hombre.

He is talking about lucas the third (As Bamtinio mentioned). He didn't leave Maloney out, he just started a after maloney left (Otherwise we also miss Price).

I think he should leave out Francis, since he was good, and we only traded him because we could get T-mac. Furthermore nobody is left from the time Francis started playing for our team, so if we take his perception of things we have been in search of every position for the last 10 years.

the greatest trick the devil pulled on mankind was making the national media believe that rafer can hit open jumpshots.

I've been hearing NBA multinational radio shows claiming that orlando received an elite pointguard who can break down defenses. and that making the playoffs is not happening this season.

I just hope that Lowry doesn't fit that list.

From his games and highlights he seems like a guy who really knows to do his job.
Plus he's very young guard and he will gain some experience.

I felt disappointing after the trade went down but now it seems like Rockets fully fulfilled the Princeton offense.

I hope it continues...and to add that I really love the concept of "Moneyball" that Morey seems to follow.

I mean look at the team.

Von Wafer - guy who was supposed to be bench warmer
Aaron Brooks - now starter that was late first round draft pick
    Carl Landry - 34 PICK!
Scola - well...one of the best Euro players in the NBA

    and now Lowry!

    I hope it works out.

Does the author not realize that a good number of those PGs were old, washed up guys with no real future in the league anyway??? I'm pretty sure other teams w/o a consistent PG presence have a similar list. Talk about making an issue out of nothing...

Yep completely agree. Now if we had Sura for the last few years, we definitely would have gone past the 1st round a few times

David Wesley, Reece Gaines are not PGs.
When I saw Brandin Knight, I thought it was Brevin Knight, one of my favorites.

I think they meant John Lucas III in that list, not his dad.

I still prefer Lowry starting because he is more of a pure PG and he is pass-first. Aaron Brooks should finish all of the games though.

Rafer was the PG for 3 1/2 years. Not a long tenure but not a short one either.
