That's because the other team overperformed. DUH Every game has two teams playing. That one team didn't win by 30 doesn't necessarily mean they underperformed, especially when they shot 60% from the field. You should stop posting until you understand basketball a little more.

Other fact is that most of US stars are very bad players in all that staff; european players (with worse physical an less talent) frecuently have made fun of them on past tourmanents by playing smarter. Im reporting you a thing fully recognized throughout the world, perhaps it's not in the US: The US have a current solid problem in basket formation/basket-base. Its difficult to find good complete defenders in the NBA, and they are called "defensive specialists"... thats a thugh fact, but checkable every time they compete outside USA. International players are by normal good IQ players (you call them like that) and they know to decide on a basketball court. Beacuse they are better formed. Possibly, a 1on1 & 2on2 league (summarizing NBA, with exceptions) tends to favour all this basic problem. An intelligent person would ask himself whats happening out there. Why their great NBA superstars are losing against a handful of "scrubs"... Now you have to decide whether continue being a complete ignorant, or begin to open your mind.

I know the potential of your current USA team, and I did know they would beat anybody because one by one there is a big difference between US team and any other team players; because they had a certain continuity of other years; and because they were better prepared and with a better selected roster. They had a game proposal, and they knew what they came to. Still, USA have phenomenal players, with infinite technical resources, great physical tools and a game out of mayority europeans reach; but in general terms, nba players are not so good in all you call basket IQ. Its a fact. Like other fact is that its hard to find a good inside defender... Beacuse you will tell me that Howard is a great defender, but he even dont know to defend a p&r or to make a 2nd help. Same with Boozer or with Chris Bosh. When a team USA had not the bold, we know what happened. And when you have that superiority in the individual offense, you must do some things bad/very bad to lose against Puerto Rico by 20 points, for example.
What were the different tactical arms? Spain tried everything in Game 1 and nothing worked. They were more successful in Game 2 but I didn't see any radical new strategy.
Team defense takes continuity and is the most difficult thing for a team to learn. It takes time playing together. You don't play 8 games a year and play great team defense, particularly when you play teams you don't know at all. If the US played Spain 100 times, Spain may not win a game. In fact the more often they played the more difficult it would be for Spain to win because on top of the US being far more athletic, they would begin to learn Spain's tendencies and then Spain would literally have no advantage at all.
I didnt know this thread was still up and i wanted to be at peace with it. First i would like to rescind any comments that i made against the US, especially all the hate that ive been reading on youtube, (specifically the dunk on dwight howard, which i dont find that impressive since a 5'11 chris paul has already accomplished. ) and how the referees supposedly handed the US that game, which is complete BS. I know wish the US wouldve blown them out. Go Team USA Second my final assessment of why this game was even remotely close was due to Navarros insane game, which the scouting report didnt pick up since he had been playing so horrible in previous games, otherwise i believe Team USA wouldve shut him down. His unexpected production is the sole reason that Spain stayed so close, otherwise where would the spain look for scoring rubio?jimenez? raul lopez? marc gasol? i mean come on who can create their own shot besides outside of gasol, fernandez, and navarro? Finally all things being equal Spain has played together how many years, while the US has a couple of months to prepare, and as crazy this sounds it is really hard for players who are inculcated to be the "all-star" to conform to the position of a role player, which of course contributes to the lack of chemistry on the part of Team US. If given a year to practice, the US would slay any team......ANY TEAM, theres no way the US would be stop, too athletic, too strong. (plus Kobe)
