I still don't understand how the lottery draft order works. Are all the picks in the lottery determined by the ping pong balls, or is there a set rank where "this is the lowest you can drop to"?

For example: Say the Rockets tank the entire season and end up with the 5th worst record in the NBA. Is there any chance we could end up with the misfortune of dropping down to the 13th pick or can we only go as low as a certain pick?

Well yes their is a chance we can drop. But a very little, tiny chance. The team with the worse records have a better chance at getting a good pick but it doesnt mean they will automatically get it. Last year the hornets almost made the playoffs and they had like not even a 1% chance of getting a top 3 pick and they ended up getting the top 3 pick.

But its better for us to suck more and more so we have a better chance. The more we suck the more ping pong balls we get.

    Does that help?

The lottery only implies the top 3 picks. The top 3 picks are the only picks that actually determined by the ping pong balls. Let's say the Rocks finish with the 5th worst record. Let's say the teams with the 6th, 7th, and 8th worst records get the top 3 picks. That means the team with the worst record gets the 4th pick. The team with the 2nd worst record gets the 5th pick and so on. So the worst the Rockets could do with the 5th worst record is the 8th pick in the draft.

    Leafy Vegie,

If the Rockets had the 5th worst record then the worst pick they could get, even if the 3 teams with the best record (ie most wins) got the first 3 picks is the EIGTH Pick, as only the first 3 picks are drawn out and then the rest is based on win-loss records.

Ohhh, thanks for clearing that up guys. I was wondering how it would be fair if all the picks were selected through chance.
