The subtitle "based on a true story" was just a joke. However there was a crime on one of the TLC or Discovery channel crime shows that talked about the gang that kidnapped a woman and her child and tried to get her to talk about some drug money. The guy was a drug dealer from Mexico who was in Texas IIRC. They were talking about how they could still get a conviction just based on the small amount of remains left after several months or so IIRC, which sounded amazing since one would think scavengers would have eaten it up or it would have decayed. Too many matches for murder and woodchipper on google for me to read them all, the Richard Crafts (disposed of wife's remains with woodchipper) case kept coming up first. Not an efficent means of body disposal.
