Hmmm... Jayson Williams faces new SPCA charge of killing his dog July 23, 2004 NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- Jayson Williams, acquitted earlier this year of aggravated manslaughter, now faces an animal cruelty complaint for allegedly killing his dog with a shotgun three years ago. The state Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals filed a complaint last week concerning the dog's death at the former NBA star's home in 2001. Because the statute of limitations on criminal charges has expired, the SPCA filed civil charges, which carry a maximum fine of $250. Judy Smith, a spokeswoman for Williams, said Friday: ``This is a blatant attempt to pile on and create publicity about an issue that a judge has already ruled has no place in the trial.'' The SPCA learned of the alleged incident earlier this year, when prosecutors trying Williams in the 2002 shooting death of limousine driver Costas ``Gus'' Christofi tried to introduce evidence about the dog. The judge disallowed it. Former New Jersey Nets player Dwayne Schintzius told investigators he and Williams bet $100 that Schintzius could not drag Williams' Rottweiler out of his house. Schintzius said he won the bet and told Williams to pay up. An angry Williams went inside, returned with a shotgun and killed the dog, Schintzius said. The former teammate told investigators that Williams pointed the gun at him and told him to clean up the dog's remains ``or you're next.'' Williams, 36, still faces a retrial on charges of reckless manslaughter in the limo driver's death because a jury deadlocked on that charge in April. link
GEEZIE....give this a man at least a water gun, sling shot, cap gun, something just take those damn guns outta of his hands
man why would you wanna kill a dog for? they need to take away guns from this dude, i never knew the exact story with what happended to the limo driver, was it an accident or soemthing like that?
If that story is true (which I don't know if I would take much stock in anything that Dwayne Schintzius says), then as someone else said, this man needs psychiatric help. Which he probably needs it regardless if this really happened or not, but **** like this really angers me as a dog owner.
He shot the limo driver accidentally. His biggest trouble was his very bad attempt at a coverup. I think he still should have gotten something for the killing, and certainly for the cover-up. But, not even the prosecutors are saying he did it on purpose. As for the dog: If he really pointed a gun at another person and threatened his life, that's the thing that should be pursued in court, not the dog's death. That they haven't pursued that makes me wonder about the rest of the guy's story.
